Conversations with John Tabor

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Tabor.

Hi John, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I grew up as a missionary kid in the south pacific. This gave me lots of opportunities to work with lighting doing events around the nation even as a teenager. Went to college In Hawaii and got a degree in TV/ Video Production worked for a couple of local CBS stations. I really got into the lighting side of things when I went to Work for New Life Church as the L2. Making sure all 5 rooms were running for at the events that the church was doing. For small to larger productions.

I started my own company in 2008 it’s something I have always wanted to do and thought this was a good time to jump in and go for it. From there on we have been going nonstop doing lighting for events all over the world. I have had the privilege to work on and with National Tours, Super Bowls, The Last Four Presidents, The Dubi Aquarium, Churches, and Corp companies. We have also worked on feature films

The best part is building lifelong friends with others in our industry. I have had the opportunity to work with some of the best in the world and learn from them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has had its up and downs for sure Covid 19 sucked hard since they shut down all events worldwide. We had to stop and look at what was ahead of us and make the choice to keep going and pivot. see what the clients were wanting and mold what we do to make things work. Our biggest plus was as a company we did not have much debt so we were able to make things work on a tighter budget.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We love to bring our client’s dreams to reality… one of the biggest rewards is after all the hard work of putting together an event and making sure all the right parts are in place is to see the response of the people sitting in the show and seeing them moved by what they are seeing. One of the things that we are very proud of is lighting people of color and making them look good. This is a real art and takes time and experience.

We also love to make things come together and look like a high-dollar event at half the cost.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m not sure if it’s luck. I was taught to work hard, take care of my crew and your clients… yes maybe some luck maybe some higher power favor.
