Conversations with Jordan and Sydney Klinkerman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan and Sydney Klinkerman.

Hi Jordan and Sydney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My sister and I have loved to bake for as long as we can remember. When I (Sydney) was young, I binge-watched every episode of Cake Boss and knew that I wanted to do the same thing when I grew up. I went to pastry school after I graduated from high school and did an internship at Kim & Jake’s Cakes. They hired me on and my sister joined about 6 months later.

We slowly worked our way through the bakery learning as much as we could. In 2021, Kim and Jake told us they wanted to focus on their bread facility in Longmont and wanted us to take over the cake shop. We had to file under a new name and get all the licensing within a couple of months but we did it and our dream came true!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a very smooth road.

We had trouble securing a loan because of our age and the fact that Sweet Sisters Bake Shop wasn’t in business for six months even though we were just changing the name of an existing business.

Working together as sisters has been a challenge but we don’t fight as much as we thought we would and we couldn’t do this without each other.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in gluten-free baked goods.

We love to do those fun, elaborate cakes like you see on TV. Our mountain landscape is one of our most popular wedding cake designs. We do a lot of fun drawings on birthday cakes like Minions, dinosaurs, unicorns, and Marvel-themed.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We are completely gluten-free but we work with a lot of other dietary restrictions like nut-free, soy-free, dye-free, dairy-free, and egg-free.
