Conversations with Jordan Vaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Vaz

Hi Jordan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up with a camera in my face at all times thanks to my dad, a professional photojournalist. When social media became a thing it immediately felt natural to get on camera and share my favorite things whether it be new skincare, restaurants, beauty tutorials – all of it!

When I graduated college I stumbled upon
a blogging course online, which changed my life. After taking this course and working on developing my blog for a full year, I launched LifeStyled by Vaz in 2022. The purpose of my blog was originally to share my favorite local eateries and products but it eventually evolved into a women empowerment platform!

I shifted my mission to be less about recommendations and more about empowering and equipping women to become the most secure, confident, and beautiful expression of themselves. Although the passion was there, my blog just wasn’t performing the way I had hoped.

Fast forward to 2024, I spent even more money on courses that taught me how to be a better marketer, copywriter, and content creator. It finally dawned on me that my blog’s mission to empower women was null and void without there being any real-life application, thus the Friendship Mixers were born.

I hosted my first friendship mixer in January 2025 in hopes of at least one person finding a meaningful connection with just one other person. We enjoyed our time together so much that we decided to do it again in February.

I made the perfect mistake of posting an open invite to this second friendship mixer on Tik Tok, which received an unbelievable response of over 500 comments, 16.2K views and 289 saves. What started as 4 girls and I meeting for drinks at Room For Milly, quickly became a movement of community-building events with a collective total of over 230 women by March!

Turns out people really crave community, and female empowerment can’t happen without it – go figure!

In three months I have had the opportunity to meet several amazing women, create spaces for community and connection among diverse women in a predominately white state, and highlight women-owned businesses that have lent their support through sponsorships.

I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the women who have made these mixers worthwhile and it’s very exciting to embark on this new journey of event planning and community building. I plan to host at least one friendship mixer each month this year, with different themes, to bring more diverse people together and support more women-owned businesses!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So far the biggest challenge has been the learning curve of organizing big events; however, Chat GPT has really sped up that process! I enjoy the challenge so it keeps me busy and excited about what I’m building.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My family owns More Than Curly Salon, which is the first all-natural, chemical-free curly hair salon in the mountain region. We’ve been in business for 13 years and I have been managing the business for 5 years.

Technically, I am the Manager but my position is best described as “everything but hair”. I am not a stylist, but I am involved in every piece of the Client Experience, Operations, HR, Marketing and pretty much everything else that goes into running a business. I get to work with my parents, which I love!

I am most proud of my ability to remain calm under pressure and diffuse potential problems before they become actual problems. I come from a very artistic, yet type-A family, which makes me equally driven and stubborn as it does easygoing and carefree. I channel both attributes of my family dynamic towards content creation and people management, which I believe sets me apart from others.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
The only thing that matters is love. No matter who you are, what you believe, or how divisive the world is – the ONE THING that unites us all, is love… and that’s all I’m trying to do in life, create more spaces for that 🙂
