Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Luckey-Riddle.
Hi Joshua, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
**Since the inception of Robert’s Re-Creations in August of 2015, we have endeavored to lead by example, with such principles as collaboration over competition & the maximum utilization of available / limited resources.
At Robert’s Re-Creations, “we transform the mundane into wearable art” through the discipline of what’s known as “upcycling”.
Not only does it help to reduce our carbon footprint upon the earth by not adding to the landfills it highlights a fun & eco-friendly version of human creativity.
Since our launch we have been allowed to participate in a variety of Fashion shows from “Massif Fashion Week”(2015) based in Denver, Colorado to Carbondale’s “Green is the New Black” (2016 &17) in Roaring Fork Valley.
In addition to creating pieces primarily designed for CosPlay, we have also produced independent photo shoots, runway shows, offered runway training, we had the honor of being featured in several publications including CME Magazine (Colorado Springs). Also, we have conceptualized & developed several individual brands made affordable to all utilizing the concept that “you don’t have to go broke to look & feel beautiful.”
Proudly we have been able to uphold & maintain these concepts through the generosity & kindness of contributions & financial donations offered by collaborators, colleagues, clients & Sponsors.
Within our first year, we had the honor of partnering with three other independently owned creative businesses Firebird Moving Arts, Firebird Fashionista & The Spearmint Collective. We are currently preparing for an independent production on July 2nd @ which we will be celebrating Local Independent artists as well as featuring our latest collection “Onyx Opulence”.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy road because the average person thinks of upcycling as wearing cheaply made hand me downs or just items from the thrift store. In addition to that most of the individuals, I have requested to work with either demand to be paid want items of clothing for free or make our working together an opportunity for them to be in the limelight and it usually descends very quickly into a competition.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a designer, producer, runway coach, drag and burlesque performer. In addition to that, I am an advocate for numerous humanitarian causes such as domestic violence and Black mental health. I specialize in creating, motivating and inspiring. as often as I can on a daily basis utilizing all aspects of my personality. I am a runway coach and a published poet as well. I am best known for being hardworking with a strong work ethic, creative and expressive I am very empathetic and a lover of animals, I currently care for three cats a dog and three bunnies. I am most proud of the fact I have been living drug-free for nine years and that I am happily married to one of the most gentle people on earth my Husband Ricky Riddle-Luckey. What sets me apart from others is my sense of fortitude. which is why our main tagline for the company is IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES…
How do you think about luck?
As far as luck goes I have tried to not rely on that as much as I rely on faith hard work and productivity. When I am granted unique opportunities I look at them as rewards and blessings for having a positive productive and proactive perspective. I am extremely optimistic despite the challenge of overcoming so many negative aspects within daily life.
