Hi Katy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been absolutely drawn to all things hair and beauty. The vibrant world of hair color and styling became my go-to creative outlet during my teenage years. In 2009 I graduated from Cosmetology School and now I’m living the dream in the beauty industry, getting to work with incredible clients who inspire me every single day.

I’ve been behind the chair full time for 15 years now. crafting stunning looks that boost confidence and leaving people feeling absolutely amazing is what truly sets my soul on fire. I mean, could I ask for a better gig? Getting paid to do what I absolutely love—it’s nothing short of a dream come true! Staying on top of the latest trends and always seeking out new techniques is something that constantly keeps me inspired. In 2023 I took on a role as a technical educator for Alfaparf, my all-time favorite beauty brand. Sharing my knowledge and passion with others in the industry? It’s the ultimate gift, no doubt about it. My main goal is being able to provide the best service possible for my incredible clients.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey certainly had its fair share of challenges, especially during the first five years behind the chair. Perfecting my craft and learning the art of providing exceptional service to my clients was a thrilling adventure. This phase laid the foundation for honing my techniques and developing signature looks that fill me with great satisfaction today.

In 2021, I made a bold decision to leave my established clientele in Fort Worth, Texas, and embark on a new chapter in Denver, Colorado. With only a handful of connections and virtually no clients, I began from square one. Relying on years of experience, advanced training, and unwavering faith in my craft, I was determined to rebuild my clientele and carve out a new life in Denver. Fast-forward three years, and I can proudly say that I am now a booked and busy independent hairstylist. The clientele I’ve built in Denver is incredibly dear to me, and with the right energy, I’ve attracted the most amazing people into my professional circle. I love calling Denver home and I look forward to the continued growth that will come with my career. this journey has been a gift, and it’s a gift I carry with me—knowing that I can recreate this special connection with clients wherever I go.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve perfected my skills in precision cutting, balayage, highlighting, lived-in color, and my absolute favorite—extensions! But beyond the artistry of hair, my true joy comes from creating authentic connections with my clients, understanding their individuality, and crafting transformations that not only elevate their look but also uplift their spirit. Whether it’s a timeless style or a daring change, my commitment to staying on top of the latest trends ensures that each client not only leaves looking fantastic but feeling like the best version of themselves. For me, it’s about more than just hair—it’s about empowering and celebrating the unique beauty of every person who sits in my chair.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m always on the lookout for the latest and greatest inspiring podcasts. Staying motivated and inspired is incredibly important to me, and one of my all-time favorites is the ‘Thriving Hairstylist’ podcast. It’s been a go-to source of inspiration for me, offering valuable insights that have resonated with me over the years. Additionally, I love drawing inspiration from industry experts and artists through online platforms. Subscribing to specialists who excel in areas such as hair, coloring, and extensions has been a fantastic source of fresh ideas and techniques.

I find it incredibly important to surround myself with resources that uplift and inspire me, as they play a significant role in my personal and professional growth. These sources have continuously fueled my passion for hairstyling, allowing me to stay at the forefront of industry trends and techniques, and ultimately providing the best service to my clients
