Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayley Olson
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for photography started when I first moved to Colorado. I was in such awe of how majestic the mountains were. So, I purchased a basic Canon camera kit and started capturing the vast landscapes Colorado offered. Once I discovered my passion of freezing moments in time through my lens, my photography style eventually evolved into outdoor adventure photography. I really enjoyed photographing friends on 14er hikes, and capturing their raw emotions along the way. The ups, the downs, and everything in between. The lucky encounters with wildlife and navigating the struggles of Mother Nature. This started my love of storytelling through photos.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a lesbian owned business, there are many challenges to overcome, but Denver has been such a supportive and inclusive city. Growing up, there was not much (if any) representation of my community or thriving LGBTQ+ owned businesses. It was very important to me to create a space where people feel safe and seen. I wanted to create a space where people can be their authentic selves and be proud to share these captured moments with their loved ones.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My specialty is LGBTQ+ focused outdoor adventure photography. I am known for my involvement with the LGBTQ+ community and capturing photos of people who are under-represented in the outdoor space. I absolutely love being able capture my clients doing their thing outside. I am proud of being able to serve my community and create a safe space for all. It is a privilege to have the support and trust of my clients to capture these beautiful moments.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories were always outside. The only place I ran wild and felt free. Where I could climb all the trees to sit, sketch, and write poems without distractions. I ran through the woods every chance I got. You could frequently find me knee deep in the creek searching for crawdads.
“Trees. Tall, strange trees.
Roots run deep. Roots run deep in woods fertile soil.
Leaves. Small strange leaves. Small strange leaves of many colors.
Tall strange trees.”
