Conversations with Keddjra Gallagher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keddjra Gallagher.

Hi Keddjra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
As a lifelong musician, I began taking music seriously in 2021. I used an iPhone 11 and a pair of earbuds to record on Garageband and started releasing my music. My singles grabbed the attention of Eric Welty, who introduced me to the Denver scene and my now bandmates in People in Between.

In early 2023, I released my debut album “How My Friends Must Worry”, which was featured on Indie 102.3 in May. Recently, I’ve been dabbling with ways to bring my studio music to life. For now, you can catch me playing with People in Between or singing at breweries and coffee shops with Eric.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s hard to define yourself as an artist when you want to do so many different things.

Balancing work, writing, gigging, recording, and rehearsals for multiple different groups can be a lot. Burnout can feel like a part of the process.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I write and produce music that is inherently me. I’m vulnerable and honest, using my imperfections and limitations to my advantage. All of my art is intentional.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that in the music scene, you can find whatever you want if you know where to look.

There’s no shortage of talented musicians and great original music in Denver. The rising rent prices, however, definitely have me feeling like a starving artist.
