Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Cassell.
Hi Keith, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My life was not easy growing up. I dealt with a lot of feeling left out which in turn caused me to act out in a negative manner. Getting in trouble with the law and being placed in different boys’ homes. When I was 18, I finally graduated H.S from Cherry Creek still had a lot of negative influence. Ultimately, I was getting into trouble as an adult. I was sent to department of corrections at 22. My mother while I was in prison was brutally murdered by her boyfriend. This in turn really pushed me into a deeper hole. I was angry depressed and lost. I got deeper into the gang I was involved with I didn’t care about anything. I was given a couple opportunities to go to community corrections or (half houses) but that didn’t work out for me as I struggled with my mom not being here anymore so I would get in trouble literally on purpose to go back and escape my pain. In 2011 met my beautiful wife Genesee and her 2-year-old daughter it was love at first sight they were my motivation however the pain and anger was still there I ended up going back to prison and the judge sentenced me to 24 years. I thought I would never get back out but also didn’t care. In 2015 I decided to Get my act straight. I joined the dog training program again and completed it also began taking college courses for animal behavior and Business. I even forgave myself and found peace in my mother’s death by writing a letter of forgiveness to the man who killed her. In 2018 I was told my sentence had been changed and I would see the parole board. I told Genesee I had a chance to come home and I was actually ready. I asked if I could live with her and she said yes.
My plan was to get out and start my own dog training business. When I was given the opportunity to parole, I got out and hit the ground running I was done with the past and the prison and would never look back. I started Pawsitive PAC Creations dog training in March of 2019 and we have been a go-to for all things dog training. My wife and I would do privates in people’s homes as well as puppy daycamps out of our home. We opened our first storefront January 2nd of 2022 and are ready to expand and build even more. We also started our nonprofit organization to help inner-city youth and veterans struggling alike with the Pawsitive PAC Service Foundation.
This is my story in a nutshell of pain and triumph. It is to show that anyone no matter your struggle can become Great.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Was expecting this question but all this was stated in the last question. Business was a struggle at times though due to the pandemic and us being an in-person service. We have also funded everything from our own pocket it’s been very hard to get funding.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My wife and I are dog trainers specializing in behavior modification and puppy training as well as service training of all types. We are known for being Positive compassionate and love to help others both in the dog world but also our community. We are most proud of the growth of our business and ourselves. What sets us apart is our story alone. But the type of training we provide and the way we train. We care about the dog owners as much as we care about the dog
