Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Watkinson

Hi Kim, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Raised in Tokyo from infancy, Japanese became my first language while navigating life in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. My mother, a top 10 tennis star and Wimbledon semifinalist, inspired my early entry into the entertainment industry, modeling with her at just five years old. By age ten, I was a regular on a Japanese series, which deepened my love for storytelling.

Alongside modeling, I worked as a translator, honing my bilingual skills, which later became invaluable as a voice actor. Moving to Los Angeles to study Theatre Arts at UCLA was transformative. I had the privilege of learning alongside Richard Olivier, son of Sir Laurence Olivier, and exploring the art of acting under exceptional mentors. I gained experience in TV, film, and commercials while also training in voice acting with Sue Blu, a legend known for The Smurfs and Transformers.

After stepping away from the industry briefly, my move to Colorado reignited my passion. Over the past few years, I’ve successfully reestablished myself, booking numerous voiceover projects through Fiverr (fiverr.com/storyteller_kim), earning lovely reviews for my work. I’ve also been featured in commercials, photo shoots, and a short film currently making its way through the festival circuit.

What sets me apart is my ability to deliver authentic British and American accents, perform character voices spanning from child to senior, and utilize my fluency in Japanese. These skills allow me to bring versatility and depth to every role, whether in acting, modeling, or voiceover.

幼少期から東京で育ち、日本語が私の第一言語となり、目まぐるしく変化する多文化環境の中で生活してきました。母はテニスのトップ10スターで、ウィンブルドンの準決勝に出場したこともあり、10歳のときには日本の連続シリーズのレギュラーを務め、ストーリーを語ることへの愛を深めました。

モデル業の傍ら、翻訳家として英語と日本語を磨き、それは後に声優としてかけがえのないものとなりました。UCLAで演劇を学ぶためにロサンゼルスに移ったことは、大きな変化をもたらしました。ローレンス・オリヴィエ卿の息子であるリチャード・オリヴィエのもとで学び、卓越した指導者のもとで演技の芸術を探求する機会に恵まれました。テレビ、映画、コマーシャルで経験を積みながら、『スマーフ』や『トランスフォーマー』で知られる伝説の声優、スー・ブルーのもとで声優のトレーニングも受けられました。

短期間この業界から離れた後、コロラドに引っ越したことで情熱が再燃しました。ここ数年、Fiverr (fiverr.com/storyteller_kim)を通して数多くの声優、ナレーションの仕事をブッキングし、自分の仕事に対する素敵な評価を得て、再起に成功しました。また、コマーシャルや写真撮影、現在映画祭で上映中の短編映画にも出演しています。

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Self-doubt and confidence issues have been my biggest obstacles. Over the years I have learned that Christopher Robin (from the Winnie the Pooh story) was right! “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think!”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What do I do? Well, you could say I’m a shapeshifter—just without the CGI budget. Whether it’s voicing a mischievous child, a wise old sage, or a heartfelt narrator, I bring characters to life in English, Japanese, and occasionally with accents that make people wonder where I’m really from.

I specialize in helping clients realize their vision—whether that’s an epic voiceover that gives goosebumps or on-camera work where I aim to make every frame shine.

What am I known for? My clients say I’m versatile, professional, and fun to work with—despite never showing up with donuts. Oh, and my ability to nail British and American accents without anyone questioning my passport.

What am I most proud of? Every project where my voice or performance makes someone say, “That’s exactly what we needed.”

What sets me apart? My blend of cultural fluency, dedication to detail, and the sheer joy I bring to every gig. Whether it’s a voiceover or on-camera role, I work tirelessly to ensure the client’s vision becomes reality.

私の仕事は？CGIの予算がないだけど、シェイプシフターと言えるかもしれません。やんちゃな子供の声でも、賢い老賢者の声でも、心のこもったナレーターの声でも、英語でも日本語でも、時にはどこの国の人かと思われるようなアクセントでも、キャラクターに命を吹き込められるかしら。（笑）

鳥肌が立つような壮大なナレーションであれ、一コマ一コマを輝かせることを目指したカメラワークであれ、クライアントのビジョンを実現するお手伝いをするのが得意です。

私の特長は何でしょう？私は多才で、プロフェッショナルで、一緒に仕事をするのが驚くほど楽しいとクライアントに言われます。それと、パスポートを疑われることなく、イギリスとアメリカのアクセントを使い分ける能力かもしれません。

最も誇りに思っていることは？私の声や演技が誰かに 「まさに私たちが必要としていたものだ 」と言われるとワクワクします。
