Conversations with Kirstie Connon

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Kirstie Connon again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Kirstie , thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
Hi! My name is Kirstie Connon and I am an independent artist based out of Colorado! I have a passion for creating landscape paintings inspired by my experiences here in the Rockies! My artwork has evolved to highlight healing themes I am working on in my own personal life, and within my yoga and meditation practice. Each painting is a reminder of the work I have put into myself throughout my journey as an artist. I have experience live painting and creating art installations at several music festivals across the country. Recently, I have been focussing more on teaching art and creating murals!

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
Recently, I have been more focussed on sharing the gift of creativity with my community through art education and art therapy. I have a background of studying art therapy and have been reconnecting with that through my own work with students. I host several different workshop offerings to help budding artists find their voice as an artist. I work with young artists to help break through creative blocks, and preserve the magic of creativity. I offer creative wisdom to help artists let go of expectations and experience the healing of art and play! My style of teaching weaves in themes of art therapy within an academic approach.

I enjoy sharing what I know about painting and drawing and want to help give tools to help young artists to flourish. It is important to me to remind people of their creative potential and to inspire younger artists to take the risk going against the status quo and pursuing their art. My goal is to create a more hands on experience for children offering art lessons privately to kids of all ages.

We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?

  • Favorite Book: Becoming Supernatural by Joe Dispenza
  • Favorite Band or Artist: Phish
  • Sweet or Savory: Sweet
  • Mountains or Beach: Mountains
  • As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up: an Artist!

When you look back on your life, what are three things you expect to be proud of?
When I look back in my life, I hope to be proud of how deeply I have put trust into myself and life around me. It is not easy being an artist, especially in such economic uncertainty. However, the whispers from the universe to pursue this path have been so strong, looking away feels more painful and detrimental to my success. I have no choice but to put all of the trust into my path and the ideas I hope to bring to fruition. Building a intimate relationship with uncertainty is key for following the path of an artist and I hope when I look back on my life, I realize that I lived a life for me, through the frequency of love and trust and not for other people, in fear and anxiety..

One other thing I expect to be proud of is the community I hope to have built with my art. I hope that my art brings people together and shows people the importance of community. I hope it points to the power of art in stressful times. I hope that people find the joy in painting through me.

One last thing that I hope to be proud of is being in good health. As an artist, I tend to stay focussed on my creativity and spiritual and emotional self . I have a pattern disconnecting from my body, and staying in the art world. I hope to be proud of the balance I find of taking care of all parts of who I am going forward. Mind, Body, Soul
