Conversations with Kitra Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitra Scott.

Hi Kitra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
About 6 years ago, I started on the Street Team for an amazing internet-based Rock/Metal Radio station called Rock Rage Rage. I would make posts about bands that were in town and around Colorado Springs. A few months later, John, the founder asked me to host my show!!! I was excited at first and then self-doubt kicked in. I told myself that no one would want to listen to me.

About a year later, John finally convinced me to do my show. I remember the first time I was in the air, I bombed so badly and was so scared. I was on for an hour and wasn’t sure of myself. I got more comfortable as time went on. I also started wearing a band shirt a day and last year I went over 280 days wearing a Different band shirt. I would post them on my pages and would get a great response. I earned the nickname #queenofbandshirts!! I love promoting the bands that are near and far.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My main struggle along the way was self-doubt. I figured no one would want to listen to a lady talks about bands that no one knew about.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a host for a show called Rocky Mountain Rage on www.rockrageradio.com and I am on every Saturday and Sunday for 2 hours at 10 a.m. Mountain Time. I am known for my passion for music and for promoting the bands that should be on regular radio.

I am most proud that I finally decided I was good enough to do this. What sets me apart from others is that I promote the bands I love by sharing their music, wearing their merch, and going to shows. I love to get to know these artists as friends and some have become family.

What matters most to you? Why?
My personal goal in life is to get these lesser-known bands heard around the World. They work so hard and they deserve to be able to share their words and creativity with everyone. Music has helped me through so many tough times and I know it has helped others, so I am so honored to have the platform that I do.
