Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Fitts.
Hi Kylie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a commercial photographer specializing in interior and architectural imagery. I have been exposed to every type of design and home in my line of work.
Both myself and my husband, Michael, fell in love with mid-century design.
After living in a new build in Central Park we were craving a mcm home with lots of character. And boy, did we find it. We found our home, custom built in 1977. Only having one previous owner (the original owners), a couple who did not have kids or pets, we found the place was in immaculate condition. From the wood paneling to the orange shag carpeting.
We filled the space with our mid-century furniture (some being vintage pieces from the 70’s) and restored the parts that needed some love (the bathroom and bedroom).
Being a commercial photographer I have been on many shoots where the client rented out a private home.. which got me thinking that we could rent out our abode for productions. “That 70’s Château” was born, and yes, that is a pun on “That 70’s Show”.
We have seen all types of productions come through – mostly portrait photography sessions, as well as large scale video productions for tv shows, clothing brands, and even a promo spot for South by Southwest.
Personal photo is myself and my husband, Michael Bruha.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Most of the challenges have come in regards to remodeling and restoring the space. Anyone who has scraped popcorn ceiling knows it is no easy feat. And we had about 2,000 sq ft of it to remove.
We have luckily been guided by multiple family members who are general contractors to help us on our journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a photographer I specialize in interior design, architectural, and environmental portrait photography. I have always had an interest in interior design as well as photography so it has always felt like a natural overlap to land in this niche industry.
I have always wanted to own a photo studio as well, and the convergence of my love for photography, design and the desire to operate a studio has felt very meant to be.
Our studio is certainly distinct as it has a lot of true to the era finishes, from the carpet to the untouched kitchen and bar to our bathroom with wallpaper from the original build date. We have modern and updated furniture (as well as a fully functional disco ball) that bring the space into the 21st century.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
