Conversations with Kyoya López

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyoya López.

Hi Kyoya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Let’s see, I always wanted to be a content creator since the days of Ryan Higa, Jenna Marbles and SMOSH. It wasn’t until my brother made me download TikTok that everything started. It all started with a basic video of me using a sound that was popular at the time. And that video got 1,000 views which got me excited!

Eventually, I started making random TikToks, I started making small scripts or ideas for videos and i enjoyed doing it! The thing that really pushed the content creator part of it was when TikTok introduced TikTok Lives which allowed me to play video games and stream easily from my phone without the need of a high-end PC. Prior to that, I had tried Twitch and YouTube, but had no success on those platforms.

Now, TikTok has become the place where I make content, the place where I have met other streamers and made friendships! And it is something that i enjoy doing!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, it has definitely not been smooth at all! I did try other platforms where I had no success at all. There are times when videos can get less than 100 views and other days when they can get over 10,000. There is really no way to know what the reach will be until you decide to upload or stream.

Same thing goes with the streams, sometimes it can be less than 10 viewers and other times, it can be well over 1,000. In addition to that, the niche that one chooses can affect those numbers as well. My content is mostly composed of gaming, archery, Pokémon and 3d printing. But the thing that really put me out there is the fact that my content is multilingual; being in Portuguese, English and Spanish (with the occasional Japanese).

Whatever it is that you chose to make content about, make sure that it is something that you enjoy doing in general! something that you do even when you’re not making content about it. And make sure that those numbers don’t discourage you from continuing! Making content is like a roller coaster, it will have it’s highs and lows; but it’s fun and you’ll enjoy it!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would say that the thing that sets me apart from others, is the multilingual aspect of my content. I am able to reach a wider audience and different parts of the world. This helps despite my content being somewhat random. It can vary from photography, 3d printing, Pokémon, video games and even just daily life. i have recently started incorporating fitness into there as well.

Though these are the things I do, they aren’t all done under the same names or accounts. I have created Komorebi Studios which is the main name that houses Notkyoyalopez, Pokeyoya, Komorebi Media and Komorebi Prints. that was, people are able to see some content without it being mixed with other content that they don’t want to see. Each part being able to showcase a different part of me and my interests.

Being able to do something that I enjoy doing whilst showing others who are also interested is something that I am personally proud of! Kind of like; “Hey! You like that, I like that! Let’s enjoy it together!” if that makes sense.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
If we are talking about the content part of it, I would say that the content matters a lot. Not putting out basic videos or random videos anymore. Making sure that when you see if, you know who made it! And making sure it is something that someone will enjoy watching!

It feels nice knowing that someone genuinely enjoy my content!
