Conversations with Lamont Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamont Smith

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally, im from the midwest, Topeka, KS. I lived out in Pittsburgh, PA just after high school for almost 4 years. I’ve lived here in Denver for 13 going on 14 years.

Early on I always knew I had a good singing voice, growing up in church and family full of musicians, but I made the choice to pursue music professionally my senior year. After about 3 years of living in Denver, I met my mentor, Myron Chandler and he put me in a space that made my mindset very “industry standard” and from there, I’ve never looked back. From producing to performing to everything in between, I’ve focused on making sure I meet that stardard and sound but also protecting who i am in all I do. No matter what.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When you decide to do anything entrepreneurial, obstacles and hurdles are a guarantee. It’s all about how you learn and persever through the issues and setbacks to really make reaching your goals worth it. No matter what has come up in my life, music has always been like a life preserver for me. Things always seem to work out for the best even when it looks to be the worst.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a recording artist, producer, arranger, engineer, and writer. I just tell folks when they ask that I’m a Swiss army knife. But there’s always more to add to the skills or the bag.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my most fond memories I’d say was when I was 6 my mom took my out to LA for the first time and during the trip we wen to Disneyland, need I say more. Lol. It was such a cool moment and til this day it’s like a magical mythical memory.
