Today we’d like to introduce you to LaQuan Johnson.
Hi LaQuan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is LaQuan Johnson, I’m from Colorado Springs Colorado and I’m a cinematographer/ photographer. So, to start I graduated 2011 from Widefield high school in security Colorado. After high school I went to fort hays state university in Hays, KS to run track & field. While I was there, I majored in media studies where I pretty much focused on video production. Throughout my time there I was filming videos for clubs on campus and workout videos for athletes. After my 4th year down there, I was getting into trouble with the law for marijuana possession and soon got put on probation. But because I was a Colorado resident, I was able to do my probation back home in the springs. After learning that I soon transferred schools to CSU Pueblo and became a Thunderwolf, I majored in mass comm because there wasn’t a media studies. During my time at CSU Pueblo (2016- 2017), the mass comm department mainly focused on radio and not video which kinda upset me. But I still kept filming videos on campus. I think after my 2nd year there I pretty much said forget school and I wanted to start my own video business. So, I moved to Pueblo in 2018 (not in school) with some friends I met while I was going to school down there in Pueblo an started this new shift in my career/ life. My birthday just passed and I just turned 25 and I wasn’t filming for anybody since I moved down there. Then one day I met this dude named Antwon Burton; he used to play for the Denver broncos. So, I filmed for him at his gym in Pueblo NLP (next-level performance) and he was training college football players getting ready to go to the NFL. After filming with him I was able to film some private workout videos, Emmanuel Sanders when he played for the broncos and some other players as well as Pro Bull riders. PBR headquarters is in Pueblo. When the pandemic hit, I moved back home to springs an got my LLC for my business. INWYT Studios (IT’S NOT WHAT YOU THINK) I run the business with my girlfriend Isabel Telles. That’s a little bit about me
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the obstacles I’ve had to overcome would be getting my car repoed during a Vital time in my life when I needed it. Buying a new car then having the engine blowing up from a. Bad oil change. low key getting addicted to a prescription medication (Adderall) but other than that I feel like life sometimes shits in you but you have to get back up and keep going
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in cinematography more than photography. I’m known for making really dope recap videos music videos and workout videos. I feel like something that sets me apart from other videographers is my ability to adapt and turn a boring scene into a beautiful scene. I really like to focus on the cinematography when I’m filming rather than just filming a video for someone.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would like to give thanks to my parents Belinda and Larry Johnson and my brother Jamelle Brown, thank you for playing a vital role in who I am today. I love you.
