Conversations with LaTroy Bowman and John Perkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTroy Bowman and John Perkins.

Hi LaTroy and John, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
John:

Grew up in Milwaukee WI, and lived there until I was 18. Moved to Nashville at 23. Growing up in a very music uninfluenced environment. Had friends that rapped and listened to all sorts of music so I naturally picked up on that. Picked up on rapping myself in high school and continued all the way to the age of 25. At this point, I discovered that rapping may not have been my calling but knew I still wanted a career in music. Family friend took me to a few weddings and events that he DJ’d and I began to develop a liking for it. Have been DJing for 4 years now and love it.

Shortly after starting DJing I wanted to get into podcasting. I enjoyed speaking to people and learning how they think. Originally showed up on this podcast as a guest for my music and shortly after, was blessed with the opportunity to become a cohost for the last 2 years.

LaTroy:

My name is LaTroy Bowman aka L.Ambitious born and raised in Nashville, TN. Currently hosting You Can’t Sit With Us radio/podcast going on 3 years now, where we interview different entrepreneurs and talents all over the world. I started that podcast to have an outlet to talk about what I have going on in life and also to give guest a chance to talk about what they have going on as well., Also I have my production group Threshold Brace where we produce, mix, master, and provide studio time for artists.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
LaTroy:

Theirs always hurdles in life to overcome. Nothing is easy in this world, and if it is easy, it’s probably too good to be true. Growing up in a single-parent household with my mom, she always told me to not give up even when it seems like the easy thing to do, but I always remember what my mom told me, so I keep pushing and working hard towards my goals and dreams no matter how hard it might be. It’s a reason they call me Ambitious.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
John:

Currently working in IT for my full-time job but also DJing on the side until it can become full time. Wanting to eventually start my own multimedia company. Also, a podcaster.

LaTroy:

I’m currently working at a warehouse. But of course, I’m working towards being full time podcaster/music producer.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
John:

IT has a huge demand and many different options as far as career paths. I also feel that the multimedia company could never be in low demand as people will always need help with music, photos, and film. Podcasting is beginning to become more popular in these times and I can only see it growing.

LaTroy:

As far as the industry goes. The outlook is promising because there’s so many outlets and resources to be successful in podcasting, music, & etc. It honestly depends on your work ethic, time, & if your able to step out of your comfort zone to be successful. You have to be different from everyone else and step outside the box to be successful.
