Conversations with Laura Fessenden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Fessenden.

Laura Fessenden

Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been an employee at Moxie Bread Co. since 2017, which is when I became entrenched in the community that Andy Clark (Moxie Founder) created. At the time of his tragic death in 2022, I was the GM of the company and quickly asked to take charge in the wake of Andy’s loss.

For me, running the business is not incredibly challenging, as I feel that he and I were doing it together before he died. The challenging part was keeping the sense of community that he brought with his presence through many avenues; music, bread, grains agriculture, and more. I wanted to create the Andy Clark Foundation to continue to provide those pieces and to keep his spirit alive beyond the bakery.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think the hardest part has been tapping into the myriad ways Andy has made an impact on this community. In no way are we as the foundation trying to replace him as that would be impossible, but we want to continue to share his passions in music and art, poetry, baking, and farming, and connecting and allowing others to flourish in these areas as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We as a non-profit are starting small with the hopes of building this organization up to be a catalyst for others to share/make/be what they love. We are a board of five members who have all been connected to Andy Clark in one way or another.

Together, we hope to raise money for scholarships, education, and more. As a group, we are very proud to have the opportunity to continue to share the things that made Andy happy and connected him to others.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Please follow us on social media to see the latest happenings with the foundation!
