Conversations with Lauren Logan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Logan.

Lauren Logan

Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a cake decorator when a friend had a birthday coming up. I wanted to make it special so I gave the whole fondant and tiered cake thing a whirl. I loved it! I continued to do it by volunteering for a bakery that let me learn with hands-on projects, where eventually I was hired.

I later went on to culinary school to earn my pastry degree, which I later used at a bakery in Texas as a head decorator and bakery manager.

Eventually, I moved to Colorado and opened my home bakery, also called a cottage bakery, where I now offer custom cookies and cakes. I am so blessed to have been placed in Best of the Springs, thanks to my amazing customers who keep my business flourishing and successful!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had plenty of struggles! The main reason I opened my bakery in my home was due to being a single mom. I needed a way to make money while taking care of my very small kids. This job has long hours, lots of learning curves, and many mentally exhausting aspects at times.

Learning how to grow my business while keeping competitive pricing AND making a profit is a never-ending battle. One of the hardest parts is finding the time to respond to all the order requests and maintain my own life outside of work. The life-to-work struggle is real.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in custom cakes. Do you have an idea and want it made out of cake? I can do it!

I am proud that I can design and accomplish anything that is requested of me structurally, something that has taken years to perfect and learn. I feel that I am set apart from others locally because I have the experience to make a structurally sound and visually appealing cake.

My limits are very minimal when it comes to cake, and that’s something I have learned to take pride in.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck? I think fate might be a better word for me. I have found myself in many friendships with customers that have improved my life immensely through the years I have had my bakery.

I have found such amazing individuals that I otherwise would not have met if they hadn’t ordered a cake from me. So many times I find myself feeling that fate (or luck) brought these people into my life, they may have started as business relationships, but they have grown into lifelong friendships.
