Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Caputo
Hi Lindsay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to use my voice. I began my venture into the arts with singing, which still remains a passion today. I was allowed into school choir a earlier than I was supposed to be (ha, my little bit of bragging!), then continued with various extracurricular, church, and state choirs.
After graduating from college with a degree that I had very little intention of actually using, my heart pulled me back to using my voice. I sang in various groups and solo, with things culminating in my own band and brand of music, which I loved.
However, my husband and I had the chance to move abroad for a couple of years and at the same time, we decided to start a family. We came back to the US with one kiddo and another on the way. After several years as a stay-at-home mom, I was excited to kick off another career.
I looked into voice over because, again, I love using my voice, and the industry had intrigued me. Something that my voice over instructors encouraged me to do was to take a few acting lessons as it’s a fantastic way to learn to ‘get into character’. I sought out an instructor I had heard about through the years, Benjy Dobrin, and took a few private lessons with him.
Suffice it to say, I ended up enjoying acting even more than voice over. I told him such and asked if he thought I might have a future in the industry. He was optimistic about my chances, so we began focusing on learning commercial work (Denver is a commercial market for the most part), eventually putting together a package to interest local agencies, which ended in my signing with Wilhelmina Denver as part of their Talent roster.
I quickly began auditioning for projects and jobs around the Denver area and have been fortunate to have had the chance to shoot various ads and films. I’ve been acting for about a year and a half now and I continue to enjoy it immensely! It allows me to use my voice (yay!) and express myself. Maybe in the future I’ll get a role that involves singing!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think something that many artists struggle with is self doubt. It’s as if the desire to show off what we’ve got artistically goes hand in hand with being our own worst critic. This has definitely been my greatest challenge over the years, yet also what has strengthened me more than anything because I couldn’t let myself fall to it.
As well, while being a stay-at-home mom for more than eight years was something I’m so very glad I did, it was also extremely difficult to watch as so many others around me progressed in their careers and endeavors. I have always had an intense desire to ‘do’ and create, so while I wouldn’t change my decision to spend that time with my kids for anything, having more time to spend on myself is something I don’t take for granted.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actor and singer. As an actor, my talents have been most recognized in film, though I enjoy the commercial side too. I love the psychological aspect of learning and embodying a character. There’s something so satisfying when, after doing the work to analyze a role, to begin living it emotionally and physically. I’m told that my ability to do this has set me apart from other actors, even so early on in my career.
As a singer, I’m a Mezzo Soprano and have a 3+ octave range. I love singing all sorts of genres, though particularly love musical theatre, pop, r&b, and jazz/blues. Ha, for example, I’ve never said ‘no’ when my kids have asked to watch Disney’s ‘The Princess and the Frog’!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
That’s an excellent and appreciated question, thank you! I’m represented by Wilhelmina Denver, so people can find me via their site for bookings.
I’m also on Instagram: @lindsaymcaputo and Facebook: Lindsay Caputo, so people can find me there whether it’s interest in working together, a question they might have, or whatever. Hit me up and say ‘hey’!
