Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Marie Rodriguez.
Hi Lisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started, believe it or not, as a paralegal. I worked for seven years in the legal field. I always loved hair and makeup since a young age but decided to pursue a degree. Once I met my husband who came from Denver and is now a barber, he suggested I pursue my passion and enroll in school and that it’s never too late.
I then graduated and followed my dreams in the hair industry. Now I don’t consider myself working as I thoroughly enjoy my career to the absolute fullest even though I’ve had my struggles, paid my dues, and found my nitch, while also doing continuous learning and still doing all I can to perfect my craft.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I will say I’ve been fortunate enough to meet the right people at the right time. I’ve also had some amazing mentors along the way.
The biggest struggle was finding my nitch because I just love all aspects of hair whether it’s extensions, color, etc. but I just always had something drawing me towards the creative freedom of styling and updos so that’s my specialty.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hairstylist. I specialize in styling specifically with a wide range of it as well. I’m known for my punctuality, quality, and delivery.
I can perform updos, any style of glam waves or curls, and creative looks for editorial. I’m also versatile where I’m able to work with different textures as well as lengths with flawless execution. I also travel! That’s what I love the most!
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck so much. I’ve been able to network and market my work as my brand and identity while maintaining relationships in good faith to have many referrals without needing to use only social media as my business as my work speaks for itself.
But most importantly I believe I’m good at what I do and I love what I do so I feel as if there’s no such thing as luck, it’s just the work you put in. If you work hard and manifest your goals you can do anything.
