Conversations with Maileonna Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maileonna Davis

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve started my business because I was able to learn about my heritage, metaphysical and spiritual concepts, and grow self love through making and wearing jewelry and it has helped me better understand my place in the world and has brought me a peace that is indescribable.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many struggles when it comes to running my business. It can be overwhelming to manage creating my products, keeping organized and on top of my book keeping and accounting, understanding how marketing and advertising works, going out and creating authentic connections within my community, and all in all solely managing all the facets of my business. It has been an incredible learning experience but every obstacle has been an opportunity for growth and development for me and I am grateful for that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My business sells and creates non replicated handmade jewelry and accessories, as well as facilities craft workshops. I am most known for my unique display and creations of Waist Beads. My business is special because I incorporate metaphysical concepts and anthropology in my designs and I introduce my customers into spirituality, self love practices, and connect people to African culture all through jewelry.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think that the biggest lesson as I build and grow my business is that there is no secret sauce. There are things you can do to improve sell’s, brand awareness, or products but there is nothing that guarantees success. You have to show up everyday and put your all into your passion and still you are not entitled to positive results. That is a terrifying feeling but also separates the folks who build businesses solely for money and the ones who do it because they love what they do.
