Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Coombs.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve never really fit in. My friends were always freaks, geniuses, creatives, outcasts, rebels, and mystics. My people. But as I got older and entered the world of college and career… something happened. I couldn’t let my freak flag fly and still get promoted. I wanted to be free and be my true self, but now I had rent and tuition to pay. So, sadly, I took the flag down.
From there it was job after job of being what I affectionately refer to as being a “cubicle monkey” for good money, some great causes, and lots of benefits but also a soul-sucking level of conformity. I was just trying to do life the “right” way, please people, and be what society expected of me. I was succeeding on the outside and withering on the inside.
Despite my struggles during this period, there was a silver lining. I was blessed to find Yoga and meditation and they saved my sanity. It was the depth of my unhappiness that drove me to try new things and step out of my comfort zone. My inner healing journey began with exploring, practicing, integrating, and eventually teaching both Yoga and meditation. It’s these practices that kicked off my desire to leave the cubicles behind and blaze a new path.
Then… I became an Entrepreneur! Yes, freedom!! I’ve had a “side hustle” since I was six years old. No exaggeration. Being an entrepreneur has always been my destiny and I finally found the right community and teachers to learn from. It’s that community that brought me to Colorado. But, after a few years, even that started to feel formulaic and constricting. The world of coaching and sales is forever filled with the “new, science-backed, proven, six-figure” blah blah ways to sell and do business.
So. Boring. And overall just didn’t fit me. I didn’t know what to do. Didn’t want another j-o-b but didn’t know how to juggle the demands of working for myself without overwhelm or burnout. Enter Human Design. This is a system that gives every person an individual blueprint, a literal one-of-a-kind map, to your unique energy formula, gifts, and purpose. When I first started to study Human Design, it blew my mind and frequently left me speechless. And, if you know me, I am never speechless.
All the parts of me that “didn’t fit in” were staring me in the face in that colorful Human Design chart. Those beautiful aspects of my personality ~ my intensity ~ my sensitivity ~ my creativity ~ were illuminated in such undeniable perfection. The patterns and the theme of my life suddenly made all the sense in the world. I can only be who I was born to be. Even better, I was FINALLY able to harness and focus my energy and knowledge.
All the college degrees, training, workshops, coaching, certifications, masterclasses, and seminars were truly accessible to me for the first time because I knew what strategies and tools would work FOR ME. Not all tools are going to work for all people and I could now sort through my Rolodex of knowledge and pick what would fit me and my unique business, what I would enjoy, what wouldn’t waste my time, and what would make me happy to be an entrepreneur again.
Using my Human Design I was able to plan and construct a business (True You Human Design) that honors all the things about me that I spent years suppressing. The truth is, those are my greatest assets. Now I take my years of experience in business coaching, life coaching, training, and teaching and pour it into Human Design Readings.
I specialize in working with entrepreneurs and business owners because you’re my people. Sometimes all it takes is a small tweak to make the mojo start working for your business. I believe that individuality is the secret sauce for artists, inventors, disruptors, entrepreneurs, and world-changers. Let’s break the rules together and build a more creative, clean, just, and exciting world!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is exceedingly good to me. My obstacles have been almost entirely internal. Starting with ADHD back in the ’80s when “only boys” had it and then moving through all levels of addiction and destructive behavior for most of my young life. It’s been a great relief to learn more about being neurodivergent and it makes me so happy to see people with these conditions get the support and respect they deserve.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Human Design Reader and Consultant. I work with creatives, entrepreneurs, and business owners, using their personal Human Design, to uncover the best strategies, tools, branding and messaging, and business model for their unique offerings so they can build a business that gives them energy instead of draining it.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting.
Face your fears. Even if it’s just one small thing a day. And be gentle with yourself. You deserve to be treated well.
