Conversations with Missi Regalado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Missi Regalado. 

Hi Missi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
GlamBar Studio was created on March 8, 2018, but the idea started a bit before that. I never had intentions or dreamed of owning a business, no way I was taking that responsibility! Until, thanks to someone that said to me “if you ever think of starting your own business, don’t do it” “it’s not easy, you won’t be able to make it and you’ll fail”. I thought to myself… who is someone to tell a person what they can & cannot accomplish? Can you guess what I did? Yup, I started my own business. Not because I wanted to but because someone told me I couldn’t, and I had to prove a point. I did prove a point but to myself, you can really do anything you set your mind to. 

Anyways, everything after that was all my own hard work and a lot of support from family, friends, and most important my lovely clients. I remember my first year, sitting in my room with a 4-hour gap in-between clients, with 2 clients a day. To now being solid booked 8-12hour day shift, 5 days a week, BOOKED! 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road, my road has been more like driving down Federal Blvd lol. Definitely not an easy road, a lot of struggles and sacrifices. The biggest struggle was financially, going from a steady paycheck to sometimes making $50 a week and always being broke. For the first year, whatever I made went right back into my business. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Esthetician, I offer lashes extensions, lash lifts, makeup, facials, eyebrow shaping with tint or henna, and I just added permanent makeup to my services. My most popular services are lashes and brow shaping. 

I think what sets me apart from others is myself. I absolutely love each and everyone on my clients and I let that be known, and they know it. I truly connect with each one of them and hold a special place in my heart, I treat them with care and love the moment they walk into my business. I always go above and beyond for each one of them, not because I feel the need to but because I truly want to and it genuinely makes me happy, also because I’m a perfectionist. I always have this saying where I tell them at the end of each service, “if you’re happy, I am happy” and I do mean that. My space is a safe place, no judgment, and pure encouragement, I’m their biggest fan. I always got that advice of don’t get personal with your clients and always keep a professional relationship. I can’t do that, it feels too transactional, I see them as people not just dollar signs. I always feel like it’s an honor to be their esthetician, there’s so many options out there and they chose me and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for all those amazing people that supported my business. 

How do you define success?
I personally think success is built from a bit of everything. Financially, if you’re not worrying about when your next meal is or if you don’t have to choose between the light or water getting shut off, you’re successful. Loving your job is the biggest one for me, I was once told to not choose a career base on salary but based on what you enjoyed doing because you’ll be doing that most of your life. Lastly, time flexibility, there was so many special occasions that I missed out of because I had to go to work, quality time with the people I love is very important to me and I definitely feel blessed to be able to take time away from work whenever I need to.
