Conversations with Morgan Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Jones.

Hi Morgan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Morgan Jones. I relocated to Denver from Charleston, SC in 2020. I was raised in a small East Tennessee town and came into this world with a soul full of wanderlust and creativity. I attended college at ETSU and quickly realized that the corporate world and a life of routine and structure was no life I desired. I went to school for Psychology which birthed my love for mental health and the arts have the power to heal.

My greatest loves in life are art, music, and my community. The South was severely lacking in all of these areas and felt like lightyears behind what I needed to feel fulfilled. When I landed in Charleston, SC in 2015 I started meeting some of the most inspiring individuals and soulful creators I had ever come across. I had finally found my tribe. The only problem was there were no places for us to commune, create, and express collectively.

Being the historical city that it is, the Charleston underground and experimental art and music scene was not accepted on a public level and had little to no support by venues and establishment. The passion that was inspired by the people around me motivated me to start an underground collective named Good People. It was composed of creatives and visionaries of all types. Collectively our presence became known in a vast array of different venues, clubs, and events in attempts to showcase what creative gems were hidden right under everyone’s nose. We showcased everything from Bass Music, House Music, local bands, independent songwriters, to drag shows. We were seeking acceptance and appreciation for creators outside of the mainstream and top 40. We advocated for inclusion of all genres/styles of art and music, fair pay for artists in venues, as well as demanded respect for what we were creating and who we were creating it with. We were very loved and at times also very hated but regardless of how people felt about what we aimed to do, we refused to give up. Our vision for a creative and collaborative community never changed. After 3 years of Charleston being the home for Good People and hitting a “glass ceiling,” we decided to relocate to the mile-high city which offered space to grow and the ability to learn from the people around us.

Good People was something that immediately flowed and was understood by the Denver community and is celebrating its 5th birthday this year. Over the years we have grown our Good People family nationwide and will continue to do so. Being in an area where my creativity and love for creatives was welcomed with open arms created the perfect environment for me to bloom personally. My time, energy, and mental space was freed up. I almost immediately began to experience unlimited growth in all of the personal areas I had always strived for success in such as my art brand Futuristic Feminine, a career in the music industry, and my esoteric practices.

I went from only being able to sale 10 pieces of art a year to 10 a month! I went from throwing shows for years for free wherever I could to having a full-time position with The Black Box, Denver’s home for the Underground. I was offered a position working as an Artist Manager with a dream team for The Gradient Perspective. I was able to wrap up my esoteric studies and write a complete 12 series “Master Your Magic” course to offer to my community teaching topics based around manifestation, mindfulness, and spirituality. I moved here and leveled up in all areas and my life went from every day being a struggle to every day feeling like a dream.

I feel like my life experience to date is testimony to the importance of alignment. When you align with the right people, in the right places, with the right mindset, magic can happen. When you plant yourself in the right pot you have the ability to effortlessly bloom. When you are surrounded by like-minded individuals you have the power to create change and make huge impacts. The biggest lesson I have learned is that inspiration and creativity have the ability to be limitless if you allow it to be. If you feel like you can’t access it, it is important to remember it has not left you, you may just be positioned in a way that is blocking your ability to see it. It is never too late to make a needed change and reawaken your ability to view the world with childlike eyes. It’s never too late to create a life that feels like a dream to you each and every day. Living in Denver is the best I have ever felt mentally, physically, and creatively. I do not know where my time here in Denver will lead me to next but I do know that I can’t wait to find out!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not!!! It has been anything but. My road has been full of ditches I had to be pulled out of, potholes that caused me to wreck, and blocks in my path. It is difficult to efficiently communicate a vision only you can see to the world around you. It is even more difficult to make people understand why you would choose a path of struggle in order to reach a more desirable destination. It is hard to preach collaboration in a world that has only been taught competition. It seems near impossible sometimes to retrain your brain that your failures don’t determine who you are and are instead a vessel for learning and a tool for identifying the things that may or may not be for you. I have feuded with family, lost friends, been in financial ruin, and too many times felt like I had no way out of my poor mental states. I have been defeated, I have been heartbroken, and put every ounce of my being into chasing my dreams without ever knowing if it would ever pay off.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I now am a full-time artist, have a career in the music industry, and am able to spend my free time-sharing esoteric knowledge with my community that helped get me to this point. I wouldn’t say I had one single specialty. I am a very multifaceted person. If I had to contribute my achievements and ability to accomplish my goals to anything it would be my spiritual practice. I was raised in church but my inner guidance system was always stronger than any sermon I ever heard.

I learned to meditate, the power of movement, multiple divinity practices, studied astrology and tarot. When I decided to follow a solo spiritual path embracing only what resonated with me and trusting my intuition and inner guidance system above all else, my life drastically changed. I became healthier physically, mentally, and emotionally. I became wealthy in life experience and the company surrounding me. I found success only measured by me in all areas of life I desired it. I stopped caring what anyone thought about me or the path I chose to get where I am today. Most importantly, I found sobriety and stability. My spiritual practice is the skeleton to everything that I do and my ritual creates the grounding and magic I need to achieve my own personal greatness. I don’t know that this sets me apart from anyone else but I do think the world could do a little more focusing on their inner world in order to see desired results in their external world.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to anyone just starting would be to throw away the map that has been drawn for you by others. Do not let other people’s lack of belief in your vision influence your sight. You are the only one who knows which path is yours and everyone’s path is going to look differently. No matter what yours may look like, DO NOT GIVE UP. Get up every day, give it your best and be a good person in the world. The good you put out into the world will come back to you. Have patience with yourself. Great things take time.
