Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Scott.
Hi Nathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off…. in the University of Iowa hospital. It was a teaching medical college and they would deliver your baby for free. ( true story) and my Dad had a coupon. Left home for the Navy at 18. Did 4 years a Naval Base in the middle of the desert, (Lemoore, CA) got out, joined Americorps and did a year in San Rafael, California. Next, joined Up With People to go on year long broadway musical tour, six months in the states and then six months across Europe. Started my undergrad, went the Netherlands to study, finished my undergrad, then left for a job with a cancer NGO in London, then moved DC. Moved back to where I went for my undergrad, enrolled in grad school, finished, and then took on my second Americorps tour. Met my wife there, she graduated, and then we moved to Colorado. Taught Creative Writing with Upward Bound for the summer and then started as a community outreach coordinator with a residential treatment center for youth. Also, I started teaching at Front Range Community College at the same time. Continued to teach, but then moved on to be a Communications Director for a private treatment facility and did that, and taught for two years. Left that, continued to teach, and then became a Commuity Relations Coordinator for a non-profit in Fort Collins. In 2024, decided to become an auctioneer and went to the WWCA, World Wide College of Auctioneering and Betty Botter Auctions was born. Working with non-profits anywhere, it’s raised over $400,000! In 2025, he took overthe product placement company Cast A Long Shadow. Working with tv and movie set directors/prop makers he makes products famous…. and all the while doing auctions, and continuing to work full time in the non-profit world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles…. yes….. changing careers, learning new skills, living abroad….
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in enjoying my life and who I am. It took me a long time to realize that I’m worked way to hard to make people think something about me…. 50 brought me to a place that was a light bulb to say… “wait a minute… I can have fun, create/make art AND make money doing it?” Why didn’t anyone tell me earlier? I could have save SOOO much time. Auctions are fun… movies and tv and product placement is fun and those things also allow me to do many of things on my bucket list!
What were you like growing up?
Scared… small, skinny, afraid of a lot. Not athletic.
