Today we’d like to introduce you to Nerea The Fiddler. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Nerea The Fiddler started playing in bars and busking by the age of 9. She got her first paying gig at the Museum of Civilization on Canada Day in Ottawa, ON at the age of 10. She then went on to perform professionally around the world as an international fiddler & stepdancer in 4 different continents. She has performed live on TV in France, Spain, and Saudi Arabia. She has played for audiences as large as 17,000 people in Paris and as prestigious as the royal family of Dubai.

Nerea moved to Colorado in 2018, bringing with her Fiddle & Dance show as well as her teaching she skills with her. She teaches violin, fiddle, viola, and piano to all ages and levels regularly in the south Denver & Douglas County area as well as around the world through an online portal.

Nerea the Fiddler started as predominantly Celtic artist and now fuses with different world music genres to bring a one of kind show to audiences.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is rare to find a smooth road to your dreams, Nerea’s has been no exception. Nerea the Fiddler is an artist with a unique background with a name that is rarely heard and associated to the Celtic Regions. Her look and name often make people question if she is a “true” Celtic fiddler. When that bow hits the strings, it is obvious Nerea was raised immersed in fiddle music and breathes the genre daily.

She has dared to bring folk music to a large stage. Sometimes, to regions (such as the Middle East) where this music is not popular or even known. Nerea has broken down barriers and not only made a name for herself but for Celtic, fiddle, and folk music in general. Promoting her motto that “Music has no borders”.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Nerea The Fiddler’s show is unique because it combines fiddle music, with traditional step-dancing (an old form of Scottish dance) at the same time! It takes intricate and precise coordination to master and is a rare art. Nerea’s feet add a percussive element to her performance. Combining her music with her stories, her shows are a type of voyage, where one can escape and experience music form different times, eras, and places.

Nerea can play a slow-moving, haunting, piece and then break into an incredible speed, bursting with pieces with emotion and passion. Her interaction the the audience is always present getting concertgoers to sing, clap and even dance at her performances.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Nerea has worked as a music teacher for numerous years and has taught over 4,500 students in her career. Nerea’s passion when it comes to teaching is working with special needs students. She has worked with numerous students with Autism, Aspergers, Down Syndrome, William’s Disease, and many other conditions. She is passionate about music therapy and utilizing music skills to establish “life skills”. Nerea is convinced that every person (child or adult) can learn to play music and that it will change their skills, abilities, and life.

Nerea has also been a polyglot since a young age and is currently studying Linguistics at MSU.
