Conversations with Nick Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Evans.

Hi Nick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started teaching myself to cook in 2008 and at the time was playing around with WordPress websites so I started a site to post my cooking adventures. I’m still running the same site (although a very different design) 14 years later along with various social media accounts that didn’t exist when I started Macheesmo! I try to focus on interesting and unique meals and recipes for busy people who can make you look like a pro in the kitchen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not! Ha! There has been years when I felt like I was making no progress and not producing worthwhile content. I still struggle with some aspects of running an online business like focusing on tasks, learning and keeping up-to-date on social media, and finding time to take on new, big projects.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When I started Macheesmo, there were not a million food blogs and there were only maybe a dozen ran by men. So I felt very secure in my niche, but these days there are SO many food profiles and sites. It’s honestly hard to be a unique voice in the space, but I try to come up with new content concepts that are fun, useful, and engaging. My most recent example of this is my “Jar Scraps” series on Instagram and Tiktok where I take the bare bones of a leftover jar and use it for something new. It’s a fun series and people are loving it.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I turn 40 next year and quite honestly self-care has become very important to me. I make sure to carve out time in the day to work out, go for a walk, or even take a nap if needed. Of course, there are other things important to me like my family, my business, and fixing my old Denver house, but if I’m not taking care of myself, none of that other stuff gets done very well.
