Conversations with Olivia Cason

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Cason.

Hi Olivia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey with designing costumes with my mom for Halloween when I was much younger. Adding the tiny details to an outfit to create the perfect look is where my passion for fashion began. I fell in love with the idea of creating custom looks and outfits with just a few stretches of different fabrics.

In middle school, I began my first clothing line called ChaoticxCupcakes and it involved reversible jackets. The first one I ever made was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on one side and a multi-colored checkered board on the opposite side and I was making it for my boyfriend at the time. I remember the day that I finished his jacket was the day he broke up with me. Unbeknownst to him, I wore it to school the next day and I received a lot of compliments on my new jacket along with a few custom orders for others.

Before I knew it, most of the school had a custom jacket from me before I left in 8th grade. After a few years of creating that line, I began to change course for my clothing line. I left an abusive relationship and I became close-knit with the idea of body positivity and consent.

Creating outfits that made people feel comfortable in their skin, possibly for the first time, was my ultimate goal. And so I created my line of adjustable, body-positive lingerie that is now ‘Via Moscato’.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have had a lot of struggles, which I would count as my biggest blessings. I wouldn’t have learned so much from a continuous string of successes. It is the hardest times that have taught me my biggest lessons, and hurdles, and given me my greatest triumphs.

I have had business partners steal from me, ex-partners try to damage my business and reputation, I have lost friends along the way, and I have stumbled and fallen all on my own. However, it is the character of a person’s assiduousness that allows them to carry on and set aside a hobby from a passion. And fashion is forever my passion.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I own a line of adjustable, body-positive lingerie. My clothing houses mechanisms through corsetry, elastic, zippers, and the like to create clothing that conforms to you. Our bodies are ever changing and so should our clothing and style.

My brand, Via Moscato, specializes in challenging the definitions of the modern fashion industry. Via Moscato specializes in giving confidence back to online shoppers worldwide.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
From the COVID-19 crisis, I learned to appreciate the value of the little things in life and to take time to recognize how fragile life is.
