Conversations with Paul Newell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Newell.

Hi Paul, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is Paul Newell, but many people know me by my stage name Eyvre. I began making music when I was 17 years old and have been a professional recording artist for 23 years now. I was born and raised in Lakewood, CO and went to College at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX where I studied music production and music business. In college is where I really feel in love with rap/hip hop music. As most stories begin, my first recordings where in a dorm room with friends on very low budget equipment, not the greatest quality. This was all just for fun and the love for music. While the love has never changed, my goals of doing bigger and better things was always the dream. When I came back from college to Colorado in 2005 my older brother passed away from a motor vehicle accident and I decided to stay home with family and continue my education at CU Denver with the same focus on the music business. I decided to leave college in 2006 and record full time with a group of best friends from high school who also rapped (Truth and Mr. Nice). The group we formed was called Everyday Ritual. We released two full length albums and performed at shows with some of hip hop’s finest. Artists like Killah Priest, Kurupt, Bizarre from D12, Keith Murray, Dead Prez, Eternal, Kid Frost, Young Bleed, ect.

In 2016 we decided to bring on a female singer by the name of Atalia Diquinzio and recorded a full length album under the same group name Everyday Ritual. This album titled “Recreated” was produced by a 4x grammy winner and 1x Emmy winner Lance Bendiksen. With co-production by Matthew Tryba (Taylor Swift, One Republic, Maroon 5, Ariana Grande). Multiple Songs on this album were mixed by Brian Malouf who has amassed 53 platinum and gold records in his career most notably mixing the “Bad” album by Michael Jackson. While the album did not skyrocket to the top of the charts, it was a great learning experience for me and I learned a great deal about the industry, things you just can’t learn in school. The group decided to split ways in 2018, on good terms, we are all still friends to this day, but that is when I decided to become a solo artist.

In 2022 I set out to find a new producer with the help of Lance Bendiksen. I was introduced to a L.A. based producer by the name of Shayan Amiri and we instantly clicked. I have been recording with him ever since and have dropped countless singles together that have been played all over the world on radio and online. I have signed multiple independent record label deals and am always working to take the music to the next level and get to the next hit record. So yeah, it all started in a small studio in my dorm room on a $15 wal-mart microphone, to recording in some of the best studios in the world and working with some of the most talented producers, engineers, dj’s, artist’s and people in the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the music industry, with every artist I don’t think it was ever a smooth road although it may seem that way on TV. This is a very tough and competitive field. I think the challenges are what we enjoy as musicians. I have been told no countless times. It the want to get better, to keep going because this is what we love and all we can think about at the end of the day. Losing best friends and my brother along the way was definitely a struggle, but I try to look at things differently and use it as motivation to make music that can hopefully touch and change lives around the world. I’ve learned that nothing good comes easy, especially in hip hop, you have to work hard to see the results.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a producer, DJ, engineer, and most importantly an emcee. I like to be the voice on the track you just can’t stop listening to and wonder who is that.

I very proud of my musical accomplishments most people didn’t believe were possible, breaking the boundaries. But, I am most proud of my wife Marwa and my children, Kloi (17), Ali (3) and Beltis (1).

I think what sets me apart from others is my willingness to take criticism from others and grow from it as an artist. I’m willing to look at things from a different perspective not just my own.

What makes you happy?
First and foremost my family, followed by my friends and music of course. I also like sports (basketball, football, tennis), sunny Colorado days, playing in the mountains and live music shows.
