Conversations with Peg Luke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peg Luke.

Peg Luke

Hi Peg, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Starting piano in a small northwest Illinois steel town at the age of 5 and flute at the age of 7 is not the kind of environment that breeds world-class musicians.

But this little girl had a calling of sorts to do something with her flute very early on. Little did she know the hard work, inner drive, and determination it would take to achieve her dreams. She saw herself in the elite concert halls but had no idea how she was going to get there. She practiced her piano and flute as much as she could early on, but she also found herself composing and singing ” for fun” on the side.

That little girl grew up and found herself teaching for decades at the university level. She found herself soloing 11 times on the famed Carnegie Hall stage. She found herself performing in many different places and with many different people around the world. Flute took her places she never could have dreamed of.

But she lost her parents and it hit her hard. At the same time, a multi-Grammy-winning producer had heard her play and wanted to work with her on a flute project. That flute project turned into a healing spiritual project written in memory of her parents. The project was inspired by her mother’s faith. The project became known as Psalm Space.
It encompassed many different instruments and vocalists.

After that project, she kept writing more spiritual music to help all those souls that are crying out for comfort. And here she is today, singing, composing, arranging, playing the flute and piano, using all the skills she started a long time ago.

That girl is me. That girl is Peg Luke.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Let’s look at this question in the present tense. This is not an easy road, this is not a smooth ride.

When I arrived in Colorado several years ago, I was battling a mysterious pain, an illness no one could diagnose. That disease was caught by a brilliant ER doctor during my first week in Colorado.

I suffer from a rare autoimmune disease called, Mesenteric Panniculitis. I battle it every day. Each day is different but I can say I work at trying to be the best person I can be every day with exercise, doing daily household tasks, playing with my dogs, and creating and performing my music.

I was hardly able to tolerate the first Covid vaccine several years ago, so I was doctor-ordered not to have any more. That left me in the house most all the time trying to protect myself from what was happening outside. Three in a half years in, I tested positive for Covid. I survived the milder form and it has opened me up to the public a bit more. I still am extremely vigilant about protecting myself.

This has given me much time alone with myself, alone with God. It has strengthened my faith a hundredfold. I have come to grips with mortality and I have come to look at life and death differently. Yes, all in a positive, uplifting way.

It makes the inner drive for what I do even more important. My positive, healing message in my God-driven music becomes much bigger than myself.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I call myself a Christian Meditative Classical pioneer. I am an artist, a musician, a composer, an arranger, a performer, and most importantly a God-inspired creator.

I am proud to be chosen by God to tell about His healing energy and His boundless love for all. I feel blessed to be God’s servant. That is what I am most proud of.

My story and my path set me apart. The truth I bring in my music sets me apart. My story of God’s love for you sets me apart.
