Conversations with Rose Browne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Browne.

Hi Rose, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
SSBB Pilates Plus began as a fun thing to do with my friends over 10 years ago in my basement. My friends saw more value in what I was teaching them than I did at the time. It was my friends that told me I should charge people money for the Mat Pilates classes I was teaching in my basement. The business was formed and word of mouth was how I gained every new client. I met a lot of people along this journey that I helped and they helped me too. The amount of experience I gained from teaching Pilates and a variety of fitness class formats to a wide variety of people with a variety of ailments or conditions, is invaluable. I gained confidence and fulfillment from helping people get stronger and feeling better. God showed me my purpose through the help of my friends. I feel that God always kept a thought in my mind that it would be nice if I could help more people at a bigger scale and with more specialized Pilates. I was working at a well-known Pilates Studio and noticing people were coming in with conditions that didn’t belong in a class of 12 people.

For years I thought about and looked into opening a studio outside of the house but it wasn’t the right time. In the Spring of 2023, I started looking for an office space to move my business into. Most of the places I went to were either too small, had walls that I didn’t want, a hard to get to location, or were too expensive. A year later, after looking at retail and office spaces, I decided to check out renting someone else’s Pilates Studio. As I was driving to this studio, I knew it was too far for my clients to travel because I didn’t even like the drive. When I got to the studio, God showed me there could be an option for me that I didn’t think would work. After visiting with the studio owner, I was driving and talking to God about the space I didn’t think would work. I decided to look at it-a third floor office space close to where my clients were located. I met with the building manager the next day and I knew it was the perfect place for the Pilates studio I imagined. The room was large, open, and had mirrors on the wall. The negotiating of the lease agreement was a smooth process. I was in shock. This was happening! I was opening a Pilates Studio! It took me 5 months to get the studio ready for business. We officially opened in February 2025. It has been challenging to navigate all the obstacles of renting and being out of my home but I am so glad I made the move. The new clients and retained clients have been a huge blessing during this transition.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am not sure anyone starts a business from the ground up without coming across a few issues. The biggest issues came about when I moved from my home Pilates Studio to an office space. The preparation of the space was a challenge. Ordering the flooring for the space was not the easiest process. Getting music licenses, moving while it’s snowing and cold, the legal documents and forms getting updated for the space, and marketing were all things that were not necessary when I was at my house. Marketing has been the hardest part and a very important part for the success of the studio. I still haven’t figured out the best marketing strategy for the population I am hoping to work with. I have faith, God will bring the people when the time is right and show me the best marketing path for this business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
After graduating from college and having my first baby, I worked as a medical assistant for Pain Management doctors. This is where I was first introduced to Pilates and the connection between the medical world and the fitness world, in addition to the gap that is present. After having a c-section with my second baby, I started doing Mat Pilates 2-3 times per week. I was feeling so good and getting stronger throughout my entire body. My instructor told me I had great form and said I could be an instructor. I started out with a quick weekend training to get certified and then added a variety of certifications, including Personal Training and Group Fitness Instructor.
I began as a group fitness instructor at a small studio in Parker and another one in Aurora, before working at VASA and Club Pilates. I taught a variety of classes, including kickboxing, Mat Pilates, Reformer Pilates, yoga, circuit, HIIT, weightlifting, Barre, step aerobics, and cycle. Over the past few years, I have started leaning towards a couple different but similar specialty areas-Scoliosis management and postpartum women’s health. I have worked with several women of different ages that have scoliosis and/or postpartum challenges. These are both underserved populations that need more attention than what the healthcare professionals have time for. Exploring movement and how it relates to the disfunction and pain in the body takes time. It’s time that insurance companies aren’t willing to pay for. This is where I come in and fill the gap between medical based help and fitness training. There is an in between place where people are done with surgery or treatment and physical therapy but still don’t feel comfortable entering a gym or returning to their activity they used to enjoy doing. I have had people come to me because they don’t like the gym and traditional forms of exercise but they do enjoy Pilates. I have also acquired several clients with scoliosis and active aging clients. I offer individuals an opportunity to feel comfortable and confident with movement in the body they have today.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am absolutely obsessed with Boston Terriers. My parents bought us our first family dog when I was 8 years old. Her name was Sparky and she was a Boston Terrier. Ever since, I have been obsessed with the breed. I did a research report about the breed in 5th grade and took Sparky everywhere that she was allowed to go. She was my best friend and now in my adult years, I have been given the opportunity to have Boston Terriers again. Only this time it is more than one. I have 3 Boston Terriers that I love and enjoy cuddling with. Only one of the 3 enjoys going on walks with me. I have Boston Terrier Puppy calendars, water bottle, and clothes. They are a special breed and hold a place in my heart.
