Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Ford.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I stared doing photography as a hobby when I was in high school cause I liked taking pictures when I would go camping. I didn’t start taking pictures seriously till I met my friend DJ Blasin at my cousins place when I was 21. He found out that I had a camera and asked me to come to party he was doing to take pictures. It was my first time taking pictures of people at a party and I found it very enjoyable to do. That started the adventures of me going out to more parties and meeting more people in nightlife. I found that I was really good at this and it was something I truly enjoyed doing, so I just started practicing more and learning how to do certain things online with youtube video. I got really good at taking pictures and just went up from there to doing all things nightlife. Ive been in nightlife for a long time and met a lot of cool people who have helped me get to where I am today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was a smooth road for awhile but I started having problems with my mental health. It made it so I wouldn’t focus on getting more work or I would just all together not care about going to work. I did start doing more graphic work because I needed a way to express myself more so I learned photo manipulations which was a positive point about all of it cause it was something I enjoyed doing and it helped me grow in editing. More towards the end of my 20s my depression got worse and I stopped doing everything cause I had to figure out my life. I didn’t go out and just disappeared from nightlife. I didn’t touch my camera for almost 2 years while I was going through the process of figuring out who I was. After 2 years I came back to nightlife with more control over myself and I started working again getting my skills back and so on.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do photography. I specialize in event/club photography with portrait photography coming close as well. Im know for my night life photography and pictures I take in clubs with how you can feel the moments in them. Im very proud of how well my pictures have turned out and how far they have gotten me to the point where I know how to handle most situations Ive been put in. Im very good at catching peoples vibes and emotions in my pictures so thats one thing that sets me apart from others because not many people take club pictures the same way I do plus my editing of them is different from others.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like the vibes that come with people out at night and how people have a lot of fun. What I like least is how many hip hop clubs there are in Denver because you are limited to where you can go.
