Conversations with Schakara Arrazola-Tiscareno

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Schakara Arrazola-Tiscareno.

Schakara Arrazola-Tiscareno

Hi Schakara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I remember being a little girl watching America’s Top Model, not realizing later in life, that I would be working with Naima Mora. My modeling career happened out of the blue.

I was a stylist doing editorial work for a Fashion Show. I was at a point in my cosmetology career when I loved being a part of that art scene and expressing my creativity. Anywho, the show director said, “You belong on stage, not backstage.”

The rest just all fell into place from there. I have been blessed with many opportunities as a model that allowed me to be successful in that industry, along with exciting life experiences. As a runway model, I mainly intended to participate in New York Fashion Week. I walked into NYFW in the Fall of 2017 and, from there, decided to change directions in life.

I got married, had a son, and experienced the death of my father. Which led me to Pueblo, Colorado. As my partner and I began a new life here, we noticed the lack of opportunities for Fashion in the community. That’s how Southern Colorado Fashion came into existence.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have faced many challenges along the way, especially being the first of your kind in a new area. I would advise anyone experiencing similar struggles to be open to adapting!

It has taken time to show the community what SCF is about and what we are here to establish and offer.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
We are thrilled to announce our most recent partnership with the Pueblo Mall!

Starting this September, our annual Fall Showcase will be held there. We are proud and excited for this connection to collaborate in providing our community members with an inspiring experience.

What sets us apart is our focus on uplifting our BIPOC Communities and dissolving the standard stigmas around the fashion industry.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
SCF has truly been cultivated by our Southern Colorado Communities. We are so blessed to have such a diverse group of people and talents.

Growing up, I faced many struggles involving my “beauty” and diversity. It created a lot of hate and segregation for me as a kid that I did not understand.

For me, it’s not about one’s features, success, or followers. I truly believe it’s about having a beautiful heart.
