Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Weiss.
Hi Shannon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story starts in early 2018. I had just found out I was pregnant… with twins. I had always dreamed of a natural birth in water surrounded by candlelight and calmness. But all my birth wishes were washed down the drain when I found out I was pregnant with twins. I could not birth at home or even in a birth center. I prepared as best as I could with the little control I had. November 2018- I have my boy and girl twins via belly birth. They were born full-term and very healthy but I couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting or needing more. Somehow in January 2019, I became a birth doula- and my healing journey truly began. Since then, I have attended births but found my true passion is in postpartum care. I became an Ayurvedic postpartum caregiver in late 2019 and since then have also added a reiki level 2 and postnatal yoga certification to the mix. All to inspire, help, heal and honor the new mother and her new family. I currently have shifted again and have stepped away from the birth world and am in sales, learning all I can to really try to uplift my own business and be my own boss very very soon. Look out world- I’m coming for ya!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been being a mom of twins in a world that mostly supports moms of singletons. I honor everyone and try to meet them where they are but I feel the struggle internally for myself.
To be completely vulnerable as well, I noticed my drinking was getting worse when I became a mom. We are constantly bombarded with messages to drink- wine is mommy juice, right? I was feeling sick and tired. I can proudly say I am 6 months sober and want to show others that drinking is not a privilege after a long day with your children, we can do better!
I want to show others that there is a better way and it starts with dropping the bottle and looking into the eyes of your children.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known now for my Ayurvedic postpartum care work. I would love to be working full-time with moms of multiples in a postpartum setting. Cooking, giving massage/reiki as well as some virtual support! What sets me apart is my empathy, compassion, and understanding of what it means to be a mom of twins.
How do you define success?
Success is waking up every day and knowing you have a chance to persist and own your day. Every day can’t be successful but as long as you show up and plant those seeds, you will see how you grow and how your business can evolve and take different shapes over time as well.
