Conversations with Sheena Marshall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheena Marshall.

Hi Sheena, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hustling has been the name of the game for me for as long as I can remember. I’m that one friend who’s always working on some kind of side hustle on top of her full-time job. In high school, my best friend and I hand-rolled polymer clay beads and sold them to friends, family, and coworkers in packaging with handwritten labels.

I have always felt drawn to working with my hands and creating a community built on connection and shared values centered around making more conscious shopping choices, which led me to create Sheena Marshall Jewelry.

Responsibly made jewelry for those who care deeply about shopping handmade and knowing the origin of their products.

It was also important to me to create jewelry that I know a lot of people have trouble finding — jewelry that is simple, functional, and consciously made.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Running a small business will always have its challenges, but I believe each of these experiences to be learning opportunities that fuel my passion for metalsmithing. Learning the ins and outs of creating a brand focused on responsibly-made designs and keeping sustainability at the forefront has allowed me to vet business partners at every level. I have carefully chosen companies with similar values to source metals and eco-friendly packaging in ongoing efforts to support sustainability.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I find it deeply satisfying to work with my hands and transfer what is in my head into a wearable piece of art through age-old metalsmithing techniques. Drawing inspiration from various paintings and textiles, I will forever be drawn to creating designs with a mixture of subtle textures and organic forms that are small in size. I am a true minimalist at heart and believe this is showcased in my work.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I believe success comes in experiencing happiness and balance. Every individual has a different definition of what this looks like for them. For me, waking daily with the opportunity to create responsibly made designs, with my own two hands, brings me joy. The balance comes in splitting my time for this passion and spending time with my family. I deeply believe in taking time to do what makes your soul happy.
