Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Velez.
Hi Stacy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been a business owner for 20 years now, in various capacities, and various sizes of business with/without employees. I have purchased land, built buildings, worked leases and tenant finish, rezoned properties, operated different businesses, scaled many, and sold several.
My journey has encompassed a lot of learning – these learnings I openly share, and mentor other business owners. Creating a business can be a rewarding journey. Learn what you can from others who have come before you, get a realistic assessment of your goals and business, and TRUE mentoring.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been smooth and I did not expect smooth, and the true learnings came in the areas of more resistance.
I spent a lot of time learning on my own, not asking for help, and learning from my mistakes – some of which were costly. I encourage people to learn from others – it will save you time, money, energy, and burnout.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I believe strongly in coaching truthfully – this is sometimes tough medicine for business owners.
I will be open and honest, and share many things that I have done correctly and incorrectly – because I want someone else to learn from me and be better than me. I will be your biggest cheer section, and I will do it with open communication.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I will constantly create and build – I love the creation process – and if I could work always on this over and over – I would. I sometimes have to remind myself to take time off.
