Conversations with Steven Beitashour

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Beitashour.

Steven Beitashour

Steven, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Grew up playing soccer my whole life. Walked on at San Diego State University where I graduated and played 4 years of D1 soccer. Got drafted in the second round, 30th overall of the 2010 MLS draft to my hometown team, the San Jose Earthquakes.

Currently finishing my 14th year as a professional soccer player in Major League Soccer. I started to prepare for life after soccer by earning my coaching license credited to US soccer. Currently holding camps, clinics, and private sessions for the youth in the area.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road, with many obstacles, naysayers, and doubters. Was never seen by the right people whether it was going to college to get a scholarship, MLS scouts going to the pros, or national team while playing in the US.

But always believed in myself and worked hard. Even though the path I took was unconventional, I didn’t stop believing in my dream of being a professional soccer player.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional soccer player who is coaching young athletes in the greater Denver community. I am known for teaching kids the methods and practices that are displayed in the professional environment.

I have taught them what I have learned over 14 years in major league soccer. The experience of playing at such a high level for so many years and competing at a World Cup sets me apart from other coaches or trainers who try to teach kids things they’ve seen online. I am teaching from experience.

I am most proud brand-wise of my Beita performance team which does a lot of work behind the scenes so that I can focus on the kids and coach them to the best of my abilities. I want readers to know we are here to teach your kids about the fundamentals of soccer. We want to teach kids how to genuinely improve their skills and knowledge of the beautiful game.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Nothing surprising comes to mind. I try to always be honest and genuine.
