Today we’d like to introduce you to Tajia Lagomarsino.
Hi Tajia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was little, I’ve always had a heart for helping the homeless and uplifting those in need. Community has truly been running through my veins since day one. As I got older, I joined the Jaycees, where I was able to turn that passion into action and make a real impact. Two of the projects I’m most proud of from that time are “Backpacks for the Unsheltered” and the “Carolina Artist Mixer,” both of which allowed me to connect people, provide resources, and create change on a community level.
Those experiences motivated me to keep going and think even bigger. Most recently, I launched The Divine Delivery Project, where I raised $400 to provide 200 reusable pads to a community in need in Africa. After completing that initiative, I knew it was time to take the next step. That’s when I decided to launch my own nonprofit, The Breakthrough Initiative,
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a journey with both smooth and challenging moments. I’ve met some amazing, supportive people who have helped me grow, but I’ve also encountered individuals whose jealousy or negativity tried to interfere with my purpose. Those experiences were difficult, but they taught me valuable lessons about resilience, focus, and standing firm in who I am. In the nonprofit world, jealousy can be a real obstacle, but I’ve learned to rise above it and let my work speak for itself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a philanthropist and the founder of The Breakthrough Initiative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering communities in need by providing resources, skills, and opportunities that lead to lasting, positive change. My work focuses on creating meaningful impact through connection, education, and compassion.
I’ve been known for many different things, but what I want to be known for most is my genuine love for the community and my commitment to showing up for those in need. I believe true leadership begins with service, and that belief has guided everything I do.
What I’m most proud of is the resilience I’ve gained through my own life experiences. Those experiences opened my eyes and heart, inspiring me to turn my challenges into a source of strength for others. Using my journey to help people heal, grow, and find hope is what truly sets me apart.
You can stay connected with my work and upcoming projects through Instagram @breakthroughinitiative — and keep an eye out, because my website will be launching soon!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I see the nonprofit sector evolving to become more strategic, sustainable, and data-driven. There will be a stronger emphasis on measurable impact and accountability, ensuring that programs truly create long-term change within communities.
I believe the most significant shift will come from empowering communities to lead their own change. The future of the industry lies in listening, co-creating solutions, and building capacity from within. This approach not only drives sustainable impact but also strengthens trust and resilience across communities.
