Conversations with Tamara Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Brown.

Hi Tamara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us! To start, can you share a bit of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you—it’s a pleasure to be here! I’ve only been with the program since July 8, but in that short time, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the vision behind it. From what I’ve learned through staff and board members, the school was originally created to provide families with an affordable, immersive French-language experience. It was designed for parents who wanted their children to develop not just fluency in French, but a genuine connection to the language and culture—all within a warm, community-focused environment. That mission really resonated with me, and I’m honored to be part of moving it forward.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been a smooth ride?

Like any growing program, it’s had its ups and downs, but every challenge has helped us get clearer on our strengths and what we’re capable of. The school has seen a few leadership transitions over the years, but I see that as part of its evolution—and I’m excited to bring fresh energy and stability to help us grow in the right direction.

One of our biggest transitions recently was moving into our current location, which has opened up exciting new possibilities for the space and the learning environment. We’re also working hard to build the right team—specifically nurturing a staff of qualified French-speaking early childhood educators who believe in the power of language immersion.

Enrollment is something we’re focused on, and while our numbers are steadily climbing—we have 16 students currently enrolled—we’re aiming to welcome a few more families into our community this fall. Our summer program has been small but mighty; the kids are having a fantastic time, and the smaller group has allowed for really personalized experiences.

We’re building something special here, and I genuinely believe this program is on the brink of something great. My goal is to bring consistency, creativity, and a clear vision to help it thrive.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been in early childhood education for over 20 years, and I’ve loved every stage of that journey. I started as a classroom aide and worked my way up through every role. Today, as the director of this French immersion preschool, I get to bring all that experience to the table—and it feels incredibly meaningful.

I’m especially passionate about dual-language learning. It’s amazing to see how quickly children pick up another language when they’re immersed in it, and how it boosts their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Watching our students gain confidence in both French and English is incredibly rewarding.

Earning my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education was a milestone for me. Now, in a leadership role, I get to make thoughtful decisions that help shape our program and support our families and staff. I’m also a big believer in keeping learning joyful—I bring a lot of creativity and artistic energy to the classroom, from hands-on projects to interactive lessons. And because I’ve walked in my team’s shoes, I lead with empathy and support.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was definitely quiet around new people, but once I felt at ease, I was full of energy and ideas. I loved expressing myself, especially through the arts. Whether it was photography, painting, or crafting, I was always drawn to creative expression—and that’s still a huge part of who I am today. Those early interests really shaped how I approach teaching and leadership: with imagination, curiosity, and heart.
