Conversations with Taylor Davenport

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Davenport.

Hi Taylor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Taylor, I am an Intimate Wedding/Elopement and Lifestyle Photographer based out of Golden, Colorado. My passion for photography started at a young age, I started doing film photography and developing my own photos before I even picked up a digital camera. After high school, I went to art school thinking I wanted to do only film photography and sculpting.

That all changed when a friend of mine was getting married and asked me if I would photograph her wedding. Right after her wedding, I knew I wanted to be a wedding photographer and start my own business. I never thought that my love for photography would turn into my career, where I get to photograph people in love in the places they love. I am incredibly honored that my clients trust and allow me to be part of such intimate moments. They are the whole reason I have been able to do what I love for the past 5 years.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No small business has had a smooth road to get where they are now. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. The hardest part of being a business owner and a creative is comparing yourself to others. I am good enough? Will people like my photos and book me? Will I make money and be able to do this as a job?

So much goes through your head, you have to push it all away and keep moving forward. All the self-doubt didn’t matter, my main goal was to turn my photography passion into a working business. I have learned so much over these last 5 years, and I am still learning and evolving every day, as a business owner and as an artist.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Intimate Weddings/Elopements and Lifestyle Photography. I love to create images that embody real raw emotions in life. I want my clients to just be themselves as I simply observe with my camera and capture all the in-between moments.

I am most proud of how unique I am as an artist, and I am not scared to do things out of the box. What really sets me apart from others is my unique style. I love documenting incredible moments for my clients, plus creating art that I love.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Here are some apps I use all the time. Honeybook, Unscripted, Unfold, SCRL and Canva are just a few I use every day. Unraveled Academy is a great place to learn from other incredible photographers.
