Conversations with Tony Glaser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Glaser.

Hi Tony, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It took me a while to decide that I was going to work in film production. I went to college for a few semesters for it but ended up landing a nice full-time editing job at a company called A&A Video Productions based out of Houston, Texas. While I was working there, several of us made a film crew and made our own films for a few years.

Since we were a small crew, we all wore many hats during the process. I’ve been an editor, director of photography, director, script supervisor, etc. It was a lot of fun and some of the most stressful and fun times of my life.

I also started to get into solo commercial work by myself. I was handling small business commercials for social media and YouTube. I worked with a couple of ad agencies that called me whenever they needed video work and I handled everything from the camera, to sound, and lighting.

It wasn’t long ago that I started to get into photography. I learned from several other reputable photographers while I lived in Houston. I didn’t expect to fall in love with it as much as film but I’m excited have that experience.

All of that paved way for my move to Colorado. I still freelance for several companies in Houston as well as one here in Denver.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think anything is ever a smooth road for those who are self-taught but the payoff is well worth it. I’ve struggled with my own hang-ups about things over the years but it’s important to put yourself out of your comfort zone to achieve your goals.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would say my best skill is definitely editing. I get calls from all over the country asking to edit their products either wedding, commercial, or indie films.

The kind of projects I’m really known for are same-day edits for weddings. Mostly Hindu and Pakistani weddings. The videographers capture the event and deliver the footage to me so the wedding highlight plays by the reception.

I’ve done a few indie films as well which were well received and I’m ready to start making my own again.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t wait. I’ve had various opportunities for big things fall on my lap and I waited for these deals to go through that never did. I was in my early 20’s then so it was a learning experience. I also learned how to deal with burn outs. Whenever I feel burnt out, I’ll do something to really shake up the rut I’m in once I realize that it’s happening by filling that void with something creative.
