Today we’d like to introduce you to Trust Noone.
Hi Trust, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been performing since I was little and I always loved the spotlight. I started in my first play when I was 8, and got my first singing solo in school when I was 7. I started taking piano lessons when I was 7. I always loved music and being in front of people, and I would perform at school and outside of school as much as I could. I really started acting in middle school, and I was constantly getting leads in my school plays and musicals. Outside of school, I performed at small community theatres like Alton Little Theater and I made so many friends and really realized being on stage felt so right for me and I wanted to do it forever. I started singing lessons as soon as my piano teacher would let me when I was 10. As my depression developed and got pretty serious at the beginning of high school, I stopped doing a lot of the things that I loved, like performing and singing, but I was still drawn to music. I came out to Colorado in 2017, I’m originally from southern Illinois near St. Louis, and I’ve been out here ever since. Came out for school, and I graduated in December 2020 with my degree in English Literature. I absolutely love to read and more than anything writes.
During the pandemic, when everything got shut down, I started rapping. Honestly, the biggest influence was me stopping talking to my parents, as I felt like they were the ones really dragging me down and I felt like they wouldn’t approve of me pursuing music as a full-time career, especially rap. I stopped talking to them for other reasons, but the pause in our talking got me to do a lot of things they may have not liked, and that’s where rapping came in. The more I did it, the more fun I had and the better the response I would get. The better my flow is, the better I feel. And now it’s been 2 years I’ve been rapping and it’s only going up from here. My parents now approve of my rap, and they’ve come to see my shows they even listen to my music and feature in my music videos. Everything has come full circle: I’m able to write, rap, sing, perform, and do all of the things I’ve loved since I was little and I’m getting so much support for it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been ups and downs, but life’s always a roller coaster. I’ve been fortunate enough to feature with so many artists from all walks of life and all regions of the country and even the world. I’ve worked with artists from Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Oklahoma, Florida, Nevada, California, and even the Philippines and Ukraine to name a few. I’ve made some great connections, and I’ve also had some duds too. I had one guy in the beginning that was antisemitic as all get out, and so needless to say we made a lot of music together but when the truth came out that all stopped really really quick.
I also had a guy make a feature for me but refuse to send it to me unless I send him nudes, and honestly, that’s the PG version. Some guys just have no class and they don’t wanna work, but that’s what I’m here to do. Work hard and I take my shit seriously. I’ve also had several videographers stand me up last minute while I’m waiting at the venue to shoot, and that’s been really hard. I put a lot of my time and money into what I do, and so I really value people that are on the same wavelength and aren’t here to waste either of them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a rapper! From St. Louis originally, but I’ve been rapping since I’ve been here in Denver. I collaborate with artists from back home, around Denver, and all around the world. I’m known for “Lunch,” a SpongeBob-themed song that was the first song I ever wrote and produced myself.
I’m also known for tracks like “Leave,” “Pull Up,” and “Make My Day.” There really aren’t a lot of female rappers, and even female artists, here in Denver and Colorado, and so I’m really proud to be one of the few out here and I represent loud and proud. I really love the community and the followers I’ve gained out here, and I know I’m making a difference. I want other women to look at me and want to be their best selves, want to spoil themselves, want to prioritize themselves. And then actually do it. And I know that’s already happened with my music and it’s only going to continue and go up and up from here.
What were you like growing up?
I explained quite a bit in one of my earlier responses, but I was definitely quirky lol. I was the weird girl with thick glasses who filled out her math workbooks early and kept a diary. I loved to write and read, and I was always obsessed with film and television.
I’ve gone to lots of concerts since I was little, and I’ve learned how to play piano and I’ve taken singing lessons as well. I was never really into sports, I’ve been way too into music my whole life. And I started writing songs and poems when I was 14 and I would really invest my time in them and put my whole heart into them.
