Today we’d like to introduce you to ZEPHR. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Eamonn approached Jim after seeing his band play on the roof of the MCA one summer evening. He asked him if he wanted to start a pop-punk band called ZEPHR, in the vein of Jawbreaker. Jim said yes, as long as there could be a little influence from Superchunk.
We began writing songs together, weekly, on Sundays. The songs came fast and easy. A month or so later, we were able to score Tyler on drums. The lineup was complete.
We had our first practice as a three-piece in the Spring of 2019, and shortly after recorded a three-song tape titled, We Like What You Like, released on Snappy Little Numbers July of 2019.
January of 2020, we recorded 14 songs for our debut full-length, Don’t Worry About It, released November 2020 on Snappy Little Numbers.
We have a split 7″ record with local sweethearts State Drugs on deck, as well as a flexi disc single. And we just completed our first tour, last month.
The future is bright.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a pretty smooth road, for the most.
We recorded our first full-length, Don’t Worry About It, in January of 2020. We put a lot of work and heart into it, and we were so proud to show it to the world and hopefully hit the road that summer. But the pandemic had other plans. We ended up celebrating the release of the album over video chat, that November.
That being said, our hearts were really warmed with the reception we got, and the level of support we got from folks.
We were able to properly celebrate the release at Bowman’s Vinyl and Lounge September of 2021 and finally hit the road for a little tour the Spring of 2022. We have some really nice things planned for the future.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in melodic, sincere, punk rock music.
We’re really proud of the friends we’ve made along the way, the shows we’ve played, and the music we’ve put out. We also try our best to raise awareness about mental health issues and suicide prevention.
What sets us apart is that we have a really solid cover of Hey Jealousy, by Gin Blossoms, released exclusively on the Snappy Little Numbers Ten Years Compilation.
