Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison White.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been using a camera as a professional tool since I was in high school. I’ve always been interested in photographing people, and living in a small mountain town presents challenges to finding a solid career, but not interesting people. My business has grown slowly and organically, and the relationships I’ve made have spanned generations at this point. Weddings have turned into family portraits, which eventually turned into senior portraits. I have yet to shoot two generations of weddings though.
The friendships I’ve made with some of my clients have been some of the richest parts of my career, and I love that I am able to be a creative while owning my own business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a relatively smooth road, mostly because it started very slowly, with a LOT of side jobs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been a wedding and portrait photographer for over 30 years. I use the in person sales method, which allows me to really get to know my clients. In addition to being able to create images that are unique to their wants and desires and provide them with artwork to cherish, I have ended up with a ton of clients who I now call close friends.
I am grateful every day that I have created something that I truly love to do and that I can make a living at it. I find shooting clients to be energizing even when I am exhausted from a super busy summer.
