Daily Inspiration: Meet Allison Gappa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Gappa.

Hi Allison, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My career started when I was in college when I got hired as a sports reporter for a local station in Oklahoma City during my junior year after interning in the sports department. A college athlete and compelling storyteller, sports broadcasting was a natural fit.

As a senior in college, I had the opportunity to intern in the broadcasting department for the Oklahoma City Thunder and was later hired by the team as a production assistant. When I graduated, I started working for SoonerVision, the University of Oklahoma’s multi-platform network on FOX Sports Oklahoma and FOX Sports Southwest as a host, feature reporter, producer, and sideline reporter. In the summer, I was the in-game host for the Oklahoma City RedHawks, a Triple-A affiliate for the Houston Astros. After working for SoonerVision for two years, I accepted a position as the first full-time, in-house sports reporter for Oklahoma State University on FOX Sports Oklahoma and FOX Sports Southwest. I was a feature reporter, sideline reporter, producer, and editor for all coach’s shows, live in-game host, and sports broadcaster for all sports at OSU. In addition to my full-time job as a sports broadcaster for OSU, I freelanced for CBS Sports as a sideline reporter and as the pre-game host for OSU football games on local television.

After working for FOX Sports Oklahoma and FOX Sports Southwest as Oklahoma State’s sports broadcaster, I transitioned into real estate marketing. I was hired as the marketing director at Keller Williams for top real estate teams in Tulsa, Oklahoma before accepting an offer as the National Marketing Director for VIP Real Estate, a luxury real estate brokerage in Denver, Colorado. I recently accepted a position as the Marketing Coordinator for KEW Realty, a commercial real estate company that owns and manages roughly 1.2 million square feet in the Denver metro area including the popular coworking space, Candy Factory Coworking. I thoroughly enjoy working for KEW Realty and love living in Denver, Colorado.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While I’ve faced many obstacles and challenges in my personal and professional life, I wouldn’t be exactly who I am today without those obstacles and challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the Marketing Coordinator for KEW Realty. KEW Realty is a sustainable commercial real estate company that owns and manages roughly 1.2 million square feet of commercial properties in Denver, Colorado. I’m responsible for overseeing, creating, and implementing the planning, development, and execution of KEW Realty’s marketing, branding, media, and advertising initiatives.

I specialize in real estate marketing and am known for that as well as my career as a sports broadcaster. I’m most proud of all the wisdom I’ve gained throughout my career. What sets me apart from others is my ability to communicate and envision then collaborate and execute greatness.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is that no one becomes great alone. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “To be great is to be misunderstood.”

It takes a powerful and purposeful team to help shape you into who you become to achieve greatness, a journey not easily understood by others. And when achieved, it is a cathartic experience not only for you but for people who consume and experience it. This collaborative effort, in pursuit of greatness, is a collection of moments, of mentors, of persisting in spite of failure, all to reach the light of greatness – alone, yet surrounded.
