Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Shaffo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Shaffo.

Hi Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story and why colonics:

I have been getting colonics since I was in my early 20’s because I suffered from food and pollen allergies, I broke out with acne on a regular basis, I was severely constipated, had terrible migraines, experienced horrendous cramps while on my period and weekly bouts of acid reflex. I was so bloated that people often mistook me as someone who was pregnant, which became an increasingly stressful occurrence since I find out I couldn’t have children.

I felt “stuck” and I didn’t know how to listen to my body or my intuition. I was suffering silently from all these symptoms and had no ideas or direction on where to start healing my body from the inside out. Colonics helped me start the process of releasing the fecal matter and the stuck energy in my body and cells. It took me eight (8) sessions to see any fecal matter come out on the closed colonic system. I was, however, less bloated, having less gas and overall more comfortable feeling in my body, so I never looked back.

Fast forward 20 years… I intuitively recognized that my corporate job was no longer fulfilling my purpose and zest for life. I was also off all prescription medications, which were mainly for anxiety and bladder infections. I cleared these symptoms and got in touch with my body with regular colonics, juicing celery daily, eating mindfully, incorporating yoga, learning meditation, and discovering NLP (Neuro-Linguistics Programming) coaching sessions to clear some “limited beliefs” that I didn’t even realize I had.

I had reached this fork in the road, where I knew that I couldn’t keep spinning my wheels on the corporate ladder. I wanted to do something I was passionate about, something I believed in and could stand behind. So, I went back to school. got certified as a colon hydrotherapist and opened my own practice in Boulder, Colorado.

I did this by reaching out to a mentor in Tempe Arizona, where I had just moved from. I hired her to give me the confidence and support I needed to ask her questions and hold my hand virtually throughout the process. Carolyn Berry @Colonic – Clean Colonic has been an amazingly supportive woman that started her business at the same age as me and now has 3 locations in Arizona and is constantly on the news spreading the word on gut health.

My goal is to bring humor back to awareness on pooping and the discussion on the gut health being tied to more dis-ease in the body and “hold space” for my clients to “let sh*t go” and start to love their bodies and understand that holistic well-being is important for the mind-body-spirit connection.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hiring my mentor was the best spiritually guided step I took; she gave me the confidence I needed to believe in my intuition, taught me to listen to spirit (I believe she is my guarding angel here on earth and lead by example by always being there for me no matter the time of day. Tony Robbins also encourages new business owners to hire someone that is modeling the behavior in which you wish to follow.

The other struggle I had at first was communicating with my corporate job that I was leaving to pursue my passion. I quickly realized in telling them it freed me from all anxieties around the subject and allowed both of us time for me to transition away while they started to train people with my role/function. I’ve always had the “hustle mentality” and working 2-3 jobs to live my life purpose is exactly what I did prior to opening my doors.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known for the girl that is bringing humor back to a daily function; we should all be more mindful of pooping and releasing fecal matter. I joined a BNI group, and my tag line is “Amanda Shaffo; owner of Healing Colonics, “letting sh*t go is the best thing you can do for your gut health.” I also put a magnet on my car to advertise if anyone is “backed up” with poop emoji to call me!

I offer a healing space for people to come in and detox and release blockages in their personal life whether it be from stress, skin issues, constant bloating, hormonal issues, Diarrhea or Constipation, mood swings, headaches, weight concerns, and infections just to name a few.

More and more research is starting to recognize the gut as the second brain. This is what you can expect when you heal the gut from the inside/out: clearer skin, better energy, less food sensitivities, hormone balance, less anxiety/depression, reduced seasonal allergies, lower risk of disease & improved lifestyle to name a few.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To protect my energy, I needed to put a bubble of protection around me as a lot of people in my life are fear-based and that was draining and not productive for my journey. I kept my circle small of supportive woman like my mentor, my cousin- my NLP coach, and my soul sister/tribe, and a handful of people that cheered me on and were positive and uplifting to be around.
