Daily Inspiration: Meet Andee Becker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andee Becker.

Hi Andee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always had a passion for hairstyling and was obsessed with women’s styles of the ’20s thru the 60s. I watched old movies and would recreate the styles on myself and my friends. In 2002, my Grandmother Millie went into Hospice. She told me then that she would be leaving me a little money and I was to spend it in “Beautician School.” I followed her wishes and attended Antoine Du Chez’s hairdressing academy.

After I graduated and received my license, I continued to bartend and do hair out of my home. Then the day came that my Husband told me he no longer wanted to wake up to clients in foils in our kitchen. 😆

So, I applied for my first Salon job and got it! I worked there for two years before moving on to a smaller salon for three years. I then moved to Henry’s Salon. Henry’s was a large upscale Salon that not only helped me expand my hair education but also taught me about the business side of things. I am grateful for the seven years I spent there.

In 2005, it was time for a change. The hustle and bustle of a big salon no longer fit my needs. I discovered Salons by JC in Observatory Park and took the plunge into owning my own small business. I’m not going to lie, the first few years were hard. I struggled to keep a full schedule and was stressed about whether or not I could keep my doors open. But I kept at it.

Fast forward to the first quarter of 2020. I was having my best business year yet and then Covid hit. I was scared. Was I going to be able to come back from this? Would my clients feel safe coming back? How long would I be shut down?

Again, I shifted my focus and started some online coaching with Thrives Society. This was a game-changer! I learned how to build my own website, how to communicate with my clients during the shutdown, and most importantly, how to rebuild my business once I returned to work.

My first two-quarter sales of 2021 have been the best of my career! The feedback from my guests is outstanding and I feel confident in my work and my business. I truly think that I have made my grandmother proud.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
