Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Fuller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a 44-year-old mom from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and a fitness instructor, competitive gymnast, motivational speaker, and American Ninja Warrior contestant. Growing up in Littleton, Colorado, I was a competitive gymnast and cheerleader, even cheering for Colorado State University. My life took a drastic turn after college when a car accident left me with a broken back, leading to years of pain, inactivity, and weight gain. It wasn’t until a close friend’s battle with terminal cancer that I found the strength to embrace Christ and refocus on my health. Through dedication to fitness, nutrition, and self-love, I healed my back, reclaimed my health, and became a licensed group fitness instructor.
Pursuing my dreams led me to American Ninja Warrior, and after several attempts, I made it onto Season 15. I also returned to gymnastics after a 27-year break, became the oldest woman to complete the NAIGC National Gymnastics Decathlon, and represented the USA at the Masters World Cup. I’m currently the oldest competitive gymnast in Colorado.
My journey has been featured in numerous media outlets worldwide, including FOX31, Denver7, NBC, and The Associated Press. Outside of training and competing, I love spending time with my family in the Colorado mountains—skiing, hiking, and biking together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve encountered several significant struggles on my journey. After a life-altering car accident that left me with a broken back, I endured years of chronic pain and struggled with inactivity. During my second pregnancy, herniated discs caused severe nerve pain and forced me onto disability, further limiting my ability to stay active. Doctors told me I would never again participate in high-impact activities, delivering a devastating blow to my athletic dreams. Adding to the challenges, I silently battled postpartum depression, which compounded the emotional toll of this difficult period. Despite my efforts, I faced significant weight gain and had to commit to years of fitness, nutrition, and self-love to reclaim my health.
I also faced repeated rejection when applying for American Ninja Warrior, but I refused to give up. After four years of persistence, I finally got the call. As a mom of two, balancing family life with pursuing my dreams has always been a challenge. Yet through faith, perseverance, and the unwavering support of my family, I’ve overcome these obstacles and achieved meaningful milestones in my athletic career, inspiring others along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a fitness instructor and motivational speaker, I help others, especially moms, regain their health and confidence through fitness. I focus on creating an empowering environment with high-intensity workouts, dance, and strength training, encouraging women to embrace their journey and progress, not perfection.
What sets me apart is my personal experience overcoming chronic pain, weight gain, and self-doubt. Having gone through these challenges, I use my story to inspire others. I’m passionate about showing that transformation is possible, no matter where you start. Through my work, I help others, particularly moms, balance fitness with family life, proving that self-care is essential for both personal well-being and the well-being of loved ones.
I’m most proud of how my journey has inspired others to pursue their dreams, whether through my appearance on American Ninja Warrior or becoming the oldest woman to complete the NAIGC National Gymnastics Decathlon. I want people to leave my classes and speaking events feeling empowered to dream big, knowing that it’s never too late, and that they should never give up.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is competing as a gymnast and cheerleader. These two activities sparked my love for flipping and flying. Gymnastics taught me strength and resilience, while cheerleading fueled my passion for performance and teamwork. Together, they laid the foundation for my future in fitness and continue to inspire me to help others pursue their own athletic goals.
