Daily Inspiration: Meet Arthur Lefo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Lefo.

Hi Arthur, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always felt a deep connection to wild, open spaces. Growing up in Florida, I focused my time on spending it around the ocean – fishing, diving, learning all the ins and outs of the ecosystems that surrounded me. After moving to Colorado in 2017, my passion for land-dwelling mammals took hold and began to bloom as I traveled to some of the planet’s most beautiful places for work. Two places that left a lasting impact in particular on me were Alaska and Greenland. The incredible wilderness and wildlife that roamed throughout these rarely visited gems inspired me to share them with the general public in order to inspire more people to advocate for the preservation of wild spaces and animals. Since then, I’ve been focusing nearly all of my time on being outdoors and improving my knowledge of its wild residents, their behaviors, and the threats they face.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! But it has been full of surprises and unexpected encounters. When COVID struck in March 2020, I was laid off from my position at the time with an incredible Colorado company – Natural Habitat Adventures. I was jobless and looking for a logical next step and was inspired by a road trip I took to Montana and Wyoming to spend some time up in wilder places before moving back to Colorado in 2021. I took what seemed like an unconventional job plowing snow, which allowed me to have most afternoons off and spent in the search of wild animals or learning more about them. By doing so, I was able to truly launch my photography career into a place that I never thought it would reach! Take risks, do things that make you excited yet uncomfortable, and see what happens!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional wildlife photographer, bear & wolf viewing guide, and conservation activist. I strive to share unique and powerful imagery of wild animals to inspire people to better understand them and advocate for the preservation of the wild spaces they inhabit. Beyond sharing beautiful images, I have come to put a huge emphasis on empowering people to build their own personal connection to wilderness through the wildlife tours I lead around the world. Sharing wilderness with other humans has always been a pillar to my love of life, and I deeply believe that doing so is the best way to build up support for the conservation of such rapidly dwindling treasures on our planet.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Do what makes you and others feel good. Take risks! And believe in your wildest dreams. You are truly your only limitation.
