Daily Inspiration: Meet Brad Tomecek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Tomecek.

Hi brad, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A native Floridian, I moved out to Boulder in 2000 to enjoy the all that Colorado has to offer including rock climbing, hiking and snowboarding. I worked in a local firm for about two years before we felt the slow down effect from 9/11. I found myself looking for work in a time where very little was happening and my options were few. In 2002 I decided to strike out on my own which was daunting. I leveraged my existing relationships and began making new ones to procure work. Design was always at the forefront of every project that I worked on no matter how limiting the budget or program.

The first years were about learning the ropes of business while maintaining the Design first mission for all our projects. We found our philosophy of Design, Sustainability and Innovation resonated with people and we found ourselves with better projects and clients year and year. Fast forward to 2025, we have built a solid reputation for Design Excellence and client service in the residential, commercial and parks & recreation sectors. We are constantly evolving to understand the latest technologies and how they can support our creativity and passion for Design.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While overall I credit a positive firm attitude and can-do approach with our success, no road is ever completely smooth without challenges. I have learned my share of lessons along the way including navigating personalities, identifying potential issues in advance and identifying key relationships for advice in dealing with the many facets of the business world.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have always approached making structures and places as an art form. Many groups can solve a complex problem without considering the end result but our goal is to do it with grace. We enjoy taking a complex set of requirements and folding them into something beautiful while making it look effortless. Light, surface and texture is the material palette of choice and the explorations can be countless. This approach makes us a boutique design firm where we create bespoke solutions as every client and site is unique.

We welcome collaboration across all the fields that overlap with architecture. Some of the most exciting projects we have been a part of happen at the crossover points with other disciplines. NO project is too big or too small to have a discussion about how we can work together and bring value.
